What compounds the sadness of this situation are the numerous excuses Ortiz has given over the past few months. He has criticized the lineup for not providing the same type of protection Manny gave him all those years, even though he is now batting between two guys who came in first and third in MVP voting last year. He has recently strongly hinted that he's got personal problems which are affecting his concentration. What if he really is having marital or other off the field issues, do we let him hit .185 with no power for the entire season? His comments about luck are silly, luck has nothing to do with missing fastballs by 6 inches or more. If he was hitting the ball hard right at the fielders, that would be one thing. He's not, he is striking out half the time and hitting popups and weak ground balls the other half of the time. There is no excuse for his continued presence in the Red Sox lineup, they need to put him on the DL and let him try to work out his problems in Pawtucket. They can't let the team's entire season get thrown away because of one player's problems, no player should be placed above the team ... not even David Ortiz.

Not to suggest anything unlawful, but have any of you RockCat fans noticed how much bigger David is since his playing days in New Britain?
I know, his nutritionist probably put him on a great diet to help him get stronger, but did that make his whole head get bigger too?
Also, his multiple injury problems seem to suggest he may have strayed from his special diet and mistakenly ingested some of Manny's supplements.
Not to be judgemental, mind you, but his health problems, as well as Trot Nixon's, might just indicate the man has juiced.
