manual is an idiot, his team lacks displine and unity, he has no clue regarding his pitchers, and he does not protect his players from umpire abuse.

there's a reason why the white soxs fired him and then went on to win the world series soon after, mets management wanted a african-american at the helm when the jackie robinson rotunda opened, well they got it even though he is the worst tactical manager in mlb.

congrads to mr. wilpon he wanted the brooklyn dodgers re-born and he got them. they were 3rd fiddle in nyc baseball and i guess now were going to have the mets sitting 3rd, right behind the LI ducks....

Manuel is just a pawn in the chess game. Like all managers he has his strengths and his weaknesses. He's an improvement over Art Howe, whom Fred Wilpon said quote" lit up the room" during his interview. In fairness to Manuel, John McGraw couldn't win anything with this roster. Omar Minaya and Tony Bernazard are the duo responible for the roster. After three disappointing seasons, Minaya and Beranzard have failed to deliver anything but rhetoric. Yet they have been retained for another four years. Suffice it to say, Manuel will not be accorded the same courtesy. The blame game as the season disintegrates yet again will be placed at the feet of Manuel. Sadly, for Met fans Fredie Coupon has entrusted his son, Jeff, to head the baseball operations. As long as Minaya continues to "lick Jeff Wilpon's boots" he'll be the G.M. and the endless cycle will continue to perpetuate itself. As Casey Stengel used to say "Amzazing!"

Included in his notes, I'm sure, is the disappointment he feels with the tepid performances of Church, Murphy, Sheffield, Reyes and Schneider, and from Green and Putz on the mound - especially the apparently overrated Putz. Throw in the disaster that is Perez, and your notepad gets lots of entries. While Manuel has not truly impressed thus far, neither have the players. Now, for what it's worth (very little), here's a little prediction for the Sox series: If the Mets lose the first game (yes, even with Johan), they'll win the next two to take the series. If they win the first game, they'll lose the next two.

You mean there are notes that he used when this bunch of counterfeit ballplayers went 0 for 10 with RISP in LA? Who knew? I never would have guessed that you actually used statistics and historical data to go 0-10 with RISP. I bet no notes exist. I suspect what he really does, is sneak behindd the dugout and throws darts at a darboard-it would serve him just as well and produce the same results as a cerebral decision.

I really believe it is time to bring in Gary Carter as the manager. He is a hall of famer, loves the Mets, has been polishing his skills at the managerial level in the minors, and as a catcher definitely knows the game. He will not put up with the garbage that this team is putting out. I think they will perform or the grounds crew will have to wash the blood out of the dugout after every game.Give this guy a shot-what do we have to lose at this point?

With their payroll, talent, along with expectation, yeah I'd say that disintegrating sums it up well. Oh, and do you "settle" for second best in your personal life! Not me dude.

I'd tend to agree with a lot of that. I think Minaya has done a poor job of providing depth and I think Manuel was just the WRONG guy for this bunch. This whole organization is just clueless. How do you open a BRAND NEW stadium and NOT have anything honoring the last world series winner? There should be a FIFTY foot mural of the ball going through Buckner's legs. Did Wilpon think if he built the Dodgers a NEW stadium in NYC that they'd come back?

HIRE WALLY BACKMAN!!! He would put a stop to the kind of nonsense we've come to accept as Mets fans like players not running hard, not sliding and not backing up plays.

I notice there's no defense of calling in Santos for Castro, because it was indefensible. A minor leaguer who has never performed much has a good week, and Jerry thinks he can save the game. Over Castro, who was hitting, because he doesn't like Castro. What he calls "knowing" his players is, more correctly, going with his infatuations and dislikes based on personality, rather than performance.

The Mets last two seasons only ended on the last day. However, they disintegrated long before that when for example Minaya failed to address deficiencies such as the bullpen last year. In 2007, Minaya failed to address deficiencies in the starting rotation during the season. As a result, the end was inevitable becuse it slowly disintegrated due to Minaya's failure to act. According to Minaya, he still belives in this team. He's hullcinating this team has deficiencies and is disintegrating yet again for the third straight year. The season will end with no playoff appearance unless Minaya and Bernazard change the way they address the deficiencies. Unlikely, given the sorry state of the farm system and the Coupons' reluctance to add payroll, which is already one of the highest in baseball. The Mets organization needs a complete overhaul and Minaya should be the first one to go. It won't happen with Jeff Coupon heading the baseball operation.

The problem I have with Jerry is that he decides to pinch-hit for Murphy in that situation because Murph is looking bad at the plate. At that point, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy since you are not giving the player the opportunity to bust out of the slump, which would do wonders for Murphy's confidence.
It's funny because on one hand, he benches and pinch hits for the batters. But if a reliever is struggling, he doesn't seem as quick to put them in a different role. How many times will Putz be allowed to enter in the 8th and blow the lead? When Green hit a wall, he kept him in the game and let him throw 40+ pitches at one point.
