If one of these three - Huber, Parmalee, or Bailey could work out they could fill an important role on the Twins bench. Morneau needs to be rested occassionally (assuming he's healthy) and Cuddyer needs a back up. The team seems to be relying on a surprise player emerging rather than a an established (and expensive) veteran. It may work out. Money may be best spent on Thome and Pavano.

And, how is this guy who has had rotator cuff surgery, an elbow injury, and has a major league ERA of 9.10 with a 2-5 record supposed to help the Twins? Whatever the terms are: utility man, journeyman, fill-in, career minor leaguer and etc., the Twins are definitely shopping at the flea market. There are a couple of catchers on the list who might be able to press Butera for the back-up job at catcher. It's easy to wonder, too, whether the Twins are at all hopeful of signing Thome. Bailey and Huber have some power and can play first base. Still, there's no minor league acquisition to get overly excited about.

I cant tell you how excited I am about these incredible signings by our Twins! We havent had talent like this since the 1957 Washington Senators. Goshamighty theres Norvillie McClung. And theres Angel Scull. Whoopee doo.
Now if only we could bring back Mat Derrier to pitch to Alex Rodriguez and Jesse Trainwreck to face Flubber Whatzhizface, we could really be on our way to the 2011 Series.

it is so sickening how the Twins are operating, back to their old ways of being cheap and blowing smoke up the arses of the fans. Hey, they got their new stadium, will sell out every game for years, signed the Baby Jesus for life so nothing else they need to do....heck, they won't even go out and re sign Thome for the paltry 3.5M he is asking for. The Twins will make his up for his salary just by shameless promotion over his 600th HR but again, they trade Hardy and put a lifetime back up as your everyday SS?....terrible move..and to let your 2 main relievers BOTH walk is , well stupid. This team is going to go nowhere...and then to let Greinke go without even trying to get him, it is so sickening. I actually had plans and reservations to go to Florida in March to attend some Spring Training games and I cancelled right after the sweep last October by the Yankees...and the downward spiral of this team seems to be in full throttle mode.....

Sounds like you're a fair weather fan. I'm glad to lose you from the fan base!

There's good reason to be unhappy. Detroit and Chicago are gearing up this season to take a serious run at the play-offs. The Twins lost their top starter, a couple good relievers, despite Walgag's subtle reminder of their more infamous moments, and their best home run threat last season in Jim Thome. So far, we've got a rookie from Japan, someone worth getting excited about, true, but these other scrubs don't look very impressive--do they? Someone in another post suggested that the Twins go after Fausto Carmona. He pitches the style of baseball the Twins like: sinker ball/pitch to contact.

If the team does nothing more than these minor acquisitions, then fine, belly-ache. However, the off season is far from over and they might take action. Detroit and Chicago certainly have improved themselves, will the Twins keep pace?

The Pohlads spent their way to #10 on the MLB list, so they're not really to blame. Everybody has a budgetary contstraints.

The problem was their hands were tied by Joe Mauer. They were damned if they didn't sign him- and now they've invested 23 million to a guy probably won't hit over 15 hr or have 90 rbi next season. Not enough for the money given.

C'mon now -- are you REALLY going to tell me you would have preferred tto have the Twins sign Cliff Lee, when Chuck James was still on the market!

It's another shrewd move, and a clear sign that Smith is building a juggernaut to get us past the Yankees!
