Yankees don't offer arbitration to Abreu

Don't be deceived by his numbers; he had a good last 3 weeks when all was said and done (ie - the pressure was off) and padded his stats. Not a winning player with the mentality of an O'Neill, Youkilis, Jimmy Rollins, etc. His fielding is also a joke.

I think this move was as much as smack at Abreu's influence on Cano as it was them not wanting to pay him $16 million next season. Pettitte needs to shrit or get off the pot. You are not getting $16 million from any other team, Andy. Accept the Yankees' offer or move on.

I think the Yankees are making a mistake if they think Xavier Nady is as good as Bobby Abreu. Much lower on-base average, not great range in the outfield, right handed in a left hander's ball park, and hasn't really played too many full seasons without injury. Now, if they added Manny as DH, it might work.

The Yankees had more problems that just pitching. Their offense was totally mediocre this past season. They don't seem to be doing anything to correct that.

Good point Joe. With Abreau and Giambi gone, we lose over 50 home runs and nearly 200 rbi's.The offense wasn't great last year. If Cashman doesn't bring in some other players like Texera, our offense could be even worse this up coming season.

i totally agree. although pitchingis a priority, it's the offense that let the team down this yr. the pitching didnt do that bad. the starters held their own and the bullpen did their job. you cant blame pitching when you lose a game 2-1 or 3-2. Texiera should be a priority. good defense, potent offense and plays daily not every 5th game. not thrilled with Matsui as a DH either. not sure what the answer is there but should give some thought.

Bobby Abreu's defense is not as bad as it is reputed to be. His range factor was about the same as Xavier Nady's and he has a fairly strong throwing arm.
