O's look at Izturis for shortstop

The Orioles have talked to the representative for free agent Cesar Izturis , the latest indication that the slick-fielding shortstop is at the top of their list to fill the team's vacancy at the position.

We aren't the Yankees. He sounds like a reasonable player for the position. Spend the big bucks elsewhere. We weren't that short of runs, just defense and pitching. Tex and a pitcher and things will be better.

No. The O's were 8th in the AL in offense. Izturis is an all glove no offense guy. He is pretty much a younger Castro. Thats not upgrading anything. Can't afford an easy out in the AL East.

Where is Joe to tell us how a guy with a career OBP of .299 is going to lead the team to the playoffs in 2011?

But Cesar has hit a home run...once...over the last two seasons (728 AB's).

I seem to remember the brilliant Andy MacPhail inserting no-hit Luis Hernandez at SS one year ago. This would really show us all that MacPhail knows how to "build" a ballclub.

Now imagine what the 2010 team is going to look like when MacPhail uses this same talent evaluation system to fill in all of the other empty spots.

Izturis is looking for his sixth team THIS DECADE.

That should tell you something about his value.

This is not very reassuring news this has typical Oriole siging written all over it. BUT hopefully they hold off to see if those other SS's are offered arbitration by December 1 or not then decide on signing a better option.

BUT if they sign him they better do some freaking great things else where because that's pretty lame.

Glad to see the O's are still operating like a small-market franchise. At the rate, their going, its inevitbale that they'll eventually become the small market franchise that they've pretended to be for lo these many years anyway
