White Sox waste career outing by Clayton Richard, lose to Tampa...

Full story: Chicago Tribune

Clayton Richard pitched more like a poised veteran Tuesday night than a struggling left-hander trying to keep his spot in the White Sox rotation.

Hey blizzard get some brain cells! I think everyone on earth knew except you that fat boy would blow game. Sox 1 thru 5 in order went 1 for 20 did not help either. Pod playing some poor defense last two games & a horrible bunt attempt by Pod who should know better.Richard pitch a great game shame he had a closer who could not close the game.

Bobby Jenks has looked terrible for the past 2 weeks. Ozzie you seem to be the only person not noticing and you can't afford to be giving these games away. I'm a Jenks fan, but until he gets his head back in the game he needs to go on a very short leash. 2 hits, walks, whatever, pull him and make sure someone else is ready. This is just beyond irrating to watch. To just dominate this game and then piss it away with a closer that clearly looks lost and unfocused right now is a distraction this team doesn't need.

Someone in the general manager's office needs to do a little yelling at Ozzie to rotate someone else in when it's clear he made the wrong call.

I admire his loyaty, but there's a fine line between stupid stubborness and winning championships.

Then someone needs to berate kenny williams into either extending Jenks' contract or trade him before he costs us any more games. Clearly something is inside his head that is a distraction. If it's personal, send him to a shrink. If it's contracts and money then get it over with so he can focus here or somewhere else.

If this was a one off, ok , bad night. But two nights in a row shaky closes vs Baltimore and Twins...there is something wrong and I can't be the only armchair fan to see it.

Nice job everyone else.

Jenks has absolutely sucked the past couple of weeks, but Ozzie sticks with him out of loyalty or stupidity. It should have been clear to everyone that he was due to blow this game. He nearly blew the last two. What a waste of a stellar effort by young Clayton Richard.

If Ozzie needs a "rationale" (i.e., means of preserving Jenks' ego) to bypass Jenks as the closer in this game, just bring in Thornton and say it's because of the predominant left-handed lineup of the Rays. Right now, I'd had more confidence in Poreda as the closer.

We threw away a game tonight that might ultimately be needed to win the division, that's how close it might be.

And, thanks for no help from the meat of the order in scoring runs with numerous men on base. I guess Beckham was supposed to do it all tonight.

I'm as ticked off about Jenks blowing that game as anyone. He's been rocky. He's also saved 22 out of 24. I hope this is a short term deal because unlike the above post, I don't think we have anyone else right now that can close. Thorton? Dotel? Nope and nope. Been tried and was unsuccessful. Like I say I hope he pulls out of it, or better yet let's just have a 4 run lead heading into the 9th. Maybe Torres will be a diamond in the rough tomorrow and we can have something good to talk about. Right now it kind of sucks.

Jenks needs to be put on a conditioning program and told to stay on it or else.I can't remember a successful closer as big and out of shape as Jenks. He reminds me too much of Bobby Thigpen, great for a couple of years, good a few more than the bottom fell out.

Exactly. I think he's just going through a short term phase. The pitch that he got Bartlett to go after for the last out was a thing of beauty. Closers are a different breed. They don't just need a good arm. They have to be right between the ears too. A lot of great arms out there can't close, while there are guite a few mediocre arms that are capable closers. Best case in point in this town is Marmol. As a Sox fan I'd love to see the Cubs make him a closer.

What manager would let a pitcher load the bases with clear sides of beef pitches and wild pitches and NOT PULL THE PITCHER after 3 men get ON. OZZIE is One rotten and Poor manager.

Jenks looked like he had a noodle arm and a nervous breakdown, use someone else after the three get on the way they did.

Face it FANS you can watch that on TV and Not be out a couple of HUNDRED dollars.

OZZIE is a poor manager to DO THAT !

Ozzie does not think like a upper echelon manager and NEVER WILL, he is an oveachiever and mediocre.

Walker should not let his batters hit the first pitch all the time, tell the batters to be patient.

Pods you have to bunt not POP up.

The rays are good but the hitting has to improve to beat them. we need Professional, not AAA, efforts and results to win.

sometimes i think ozzie thinks more about hurting a guys feelings instead of winning. i watched monday nites game and i would have never put jenks in on tuesday in the first place, however after he hit a batter i would have taken him out and just told him it does not seem to be your day. come on ozzie its after the all star break and we as fans want better coaching

Blown saves are part of today's game, even Mariano Rivera will blow X amount of games a year.

It's always a kick in the teeth when the closer blows a game but today is another day and Jenks is our 9th inning guy.

Good to see Clayton pitch a good game.

I do not understand why Ozzie pulled Richard. He was pitching beautifully, and the Rays could barely touch any of his pitches through the first eight innings. Should have left him in the game, plain and simple.

This comment put him over the top..."I think everyone on earth knew except you that fat boy would blow game."
Hardly.
So, was Ozzie supposed to not put Jenks in the game in the ninth?
After several bad outings you have to go with someone else .Especially after Jenks gave up hit to first batter & hit the second .Jenks is on what I hope is just a pitching slump.Give him a rest & go with someone else till he gets his stuff back. Man I did not know we got graded on these posts.Certainly its not everybody on earth knew better but I bet majority of us fans knew Jenks could not hold lead.
