I watched Chapman throw last night and WOW he is the real deal. 102+MPH sounds unbelievable and the kid has been clocked as high as 105 in AAA ball and he is throwing STRIKES!! These Reds are really lucky to add him as an instant pitching upgrade before this year's post season.

Can't wait to see how Dusty misuses the guy. Enjoy him now Reds fans, because he'll be in the DL by July.

No way!
There's NO way Jocketty & the Reds organization will allow anything like this to happen to their $30 million investment, particularly in light of the recent rise & fall injury to the "designated hall of famer" Stephen Strasburg.

Just because Chapman has proved he can throw 105 MPH doesn't of course mean every pitch he throws is going to approach anything NEAR that velocity! What this means is his slider is going to be around 85- 90 MPH.....and that's TRULY AWESOME!!!

For the longer term, if Chapman can consistantly throw STRIKES between 85 - 105 MPH, he'll have the capacity to literally rake through MLB lineups as a starter.
In the short term....the Cards, Padres & Braves are in BIG trouble!

Ever hear of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood? Check to see who their manager was when they broke into the majors.

Yea, because people don't learn from their mistakes. If you've watched the Reds at all you would know that he has handled Leake, Wood, Cueto all very well.

People in Columbus shoudn't be allowed to comment on baseball posts, I'm suprised they even know what it is. Stick to something you know, strip malls, box stores and chain restaurants.......

That is an old and worn out argument that doesn't hold much water. Mark Prior's mechanics were not sound which inevitably led to his injuries. Kerry Wood had an injury history before Baker. Baker does ask for a lot of pitches, but blaming Baker is an over simplification at best.

A bit of internet research... Aroldis' three fastest pitches would rank 2, 3 and 7 on the list of fastest pitches ever observed. His Louisville Bats 105 MPH pitch would rank #1

I've been following the Reds since 1969 and this team is the most entertaining Reds team I have ever seen. Outside of Phillps and Votto, they seem to be a bunch of average guys who are playing their guts out. The '90 team was a lot like this team but the '90 team had a solid pitching staff.

Anyway as a Red fan it's nice to be talking about making the playoffs in September. Its been long time since that has happen.

I love my Ohio State football, but only in Columbus does a thread started from an excellent article by Oller on Aroldis' debut lead to flaming posts regarding college football.

What about Edinson Volquez?
Wasn't he the next great thing in 2008 until Dusty over-used him and he had to have major surgery....now he'll be lucky to get back to being half the pitcher he used to be....
The jury is still out on Mike Leake. After starting the season very well, one could argue he has been over-used. After beating the Cubs on the 4th of July he was 6-1 with an ERA of 3.38, now he's 8-4 with an ERA of 4.62. His ERA for the month of August alone was 8.83. And this is after they knew they had to keep a very close eye on how many pitches he was throwing.

I really hope he doesn't ruin this Chapman kid, he is something special. But to not acknowledge the history Dusty has with over-using pitchers is simply wrong. Instead of defending Dusty, Reds fans should never let him forget, and hopefully no other pitchers career will be shortened.....

This guy brings the Thunder. But on a side note, did anyone watch the game last night? Votto and Rolen finished with 2 doubles each and had 2 of the most ridiculous plays I have ever seen to end the game. The backhanded throw by Rolen to end the game after coming up with a screaming ground ball was absolutely amazing. This team is for real, and for the first time in 15 years I am excited about playoff baseball!!!

I watched the game last night and those plays by Bolen and Votto were amazing. Like I said before, these guys are playing their guts out. Go Reds!

OSU Football is not a columbus team it belongs to the state the last time I checked. Oh-IO maybe...... that leaves you with a hockey team that has never had a winning season in franchise history, you cowbusians must be sooo proud!!!!
