What is the Phillies management thinking??? He is thirty seven years OLD, a major drama king and of late, been on the DL more than he is on the pitching mound.

You've basically told your bullpen to be ready for major innings every 5th day.

This is pretty meaningless, really.

First off, I doubt that many Phillies fans are part of Newsday's readership.

Also, it's not like this is going to make a difference to Los Mets. It's not as if Martinez is going to see much time on the mound, DL or not.

It's nice enough to see someone love the game enough to try to get another year or so in the bigs no matter what, but this guy has already seen his best days.

Basically, who in the NY area should really care?

Low risk investment. If he pitches better than expected then he's a cost effective fifth starter that can give the team five or six innings when he takes the hill. If he tanks they can simply part ways.

Mets fan living right outside Phila., really surprised Phillies signed Pedro. Should have just brought up Drabek or Kendrick.

How can any Met fan in their right mind say this was a bad signing??? Its like Sheffield, no downside because the money paid for his services are next to nothing, so why didn't the Mets spend 1 million on Pedro.........oh yeah, thats right, our season is over, why waste the money. I would have paid a mil for him, well worth the risk because there is none.

another bandwagon fan that is not paying attention.....

In the spring he wanted 5 million and he's not worth, at this point in his career,$10.

He is almost 39 years old, and was broken down more then he pitched while with the Mets.

In case you haven't been paying attention but 75% of our every day guys are on the DL and you want to sign another one to it?

Our bullpen is taxed and this guy goes 5 innings.

There are plenty of risks.......

Oh yeah the season is over, just like in 73 when they were in last place on the last day in August.....or like in 69 when they didn't even got into 1st until the last week of the season.

Typical bandwagon fan not paying attention.

Luvthegame,

I luv your above commentary!! Spoken like a true Mets fan. Thanks!
Although the much maligned Minaya can be accused of not making such great deals for the Mets (and us fans), one of the smartest moves he made this Spring was to "just say no!" to that worthless, oft-injured drama king. I can only hope when he faces the Mets later this season, he will do for the Phillies what he did for the Mets in the past season or two.

Jim although I cant stand Pedro, you gotta admitt for 1mill it's worth a shot for the Phills who need pitching help in the worste way. If it doesn't work out you throw him in the pen or just cut him loose. 1yr deal was the way to go on this one I think.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Aries

Be very wary about mixing love and money today, because they could curdle and leave a nasty taste in your mouth. Someone might rip you off, or so it seems to you. And 'seems' is the operative word because, with the Moon in sensitive Cancer, you're very subjective and emotional, strongly influenced by your feelings. There is also a chance that someone you trust is playing fast and loose with your heart, although you won't be certain of that just yet.
