Too bad arod (small case letters for a player who comes up small in the clutch) lacks the heart and fighting toughness of Xavier Nady. I wish my NYY had more confidence and mental toughness like the kind exhibited by Nady's consistency while hitting in the clutch.

If the Yankees were smart they would sign Nady to an extended deal. He has always reminded me of another Yankee that propelled them to 4 titles and that is Paul O'Neal. He is a tough grind it out guy that puts the team first.

The Yankees need to fill their roster with more guys like him. Matsui fits the mold as well as Damon. Either one of those guys needs to learn first base by next season. My bet is Matsui.

Guys like Cano should be traded for the best possible deal. How about sending him, Kennedy, and Melky to the Dodgers for Kershaw. Good deal for both. Then take Hughes and maybe Coke and send them to the Rangers for Hamilton. What kind of line-up would that be?

I would also make Jeter actually act like the team captain and move to second and bring in a short stop via Free agency. Or move A-Rod back to short and look for a 3rd baseman. The infield would be greatly improved defensively.

Then get your pitching in Free Agency. There is enough available to build an instant dynasty for 4-5 years. CC Sabathia, AJ Burnet, and Ben Sheets, added to the Moose and maybe Petite. Keep Joba where he best suits the team, the bridge to Mo.

Gardner or Cabrera haven't seized the CF job? Um, Cabrera was sent to the minors and Gardner, after getting 5 hits in his last 2 starts, hadn't played in over 2 weeks and then was thrown into the lineup against Scott Kazmir the other night. How can either of them seize the CF job when they haven't even been playing? Either way, the Yankees cannot go into 2009 with Damon as the centerfielder. He is terrible out there.

well Melky started in CF and hasnt hit worth a crap. he plays an ok CF and hisbest feature is his arm. he had the chance to solidify his spot on team and didnt do it.
Gardner needs more playing time. I agree w/you there. he has the kind of speed this team lacks and can make things happen once on base.

i like Nady too. he plays ball the way it should be play3d. hard with passion.
now on to Matsui-dont bet on a guy comming off knee surgery and emerging himself @ 1st base. for some reason people think 1stbaseman just stand there and receive throws from infielders. why do people think that. a 1st baseman needs to move left to right and right to left, field balls, throw to 2nd, throw home, manuever to cath throws and stretch out full. i dont see a surgically repaired knee doing that so soon. go spend $ and get Texieria to play 1st. improves team on both sides of ball.
now on to pitching...depends who is available. dont count on Pettite commingback, or being welcomed back for that matter. he's been mediocre this yr at best and not sure he's worth the $16M he's being paid. the pitchers you named would be good, you mentioned Moose-i'd sign him to 1 yr again. and dont forget Wang. everyone seems to forget his value to this team and how many wins he's put up consistently in short time. sure he'sno stopper or big time pitcher in playoffs but he's a 18+ game winner all yrs.
dont count on Burnett being available. i know the Jays dont have history of paying guys but with Halliday, Burnett and maybe they get a guy in offseason then they got 3 solid guys and wontbe looking to trade. i sure they tired fo gettingbeat up by Yanks and Sox so maybe they get in the hunt to for CC or Sheets.
either way the Yanks need to just get back to what they do...dump the flops and guys that arent producing and spend $ to get the guys they want.
who cares about payroll - it's not our $. if games become too expensive to go to then relax in your house with the family and watch the game.
