Oh my watching that play reminded me of another ex Yankee Gil McDougald lining a shot at Cleveland southpaw Herb Score back around 1957. Score was a young lefty who was on the way to greatness when this freak injury happened & sadly his career was never the same after that. He only lasted 2-3 more years before calling it quits. Nothing scarier being out on the mound with no protection. You're a human bullseye out in the center of the diamond. Thank God it wasn't worse. Hope Nick will be okay.
