IN SAVE SITUATIONS JOBO HAS A LOWER ERA THEN MARIANO RIVERIA...HE HAS THE MOST BLOWN SAVES BECAUSE HE HAS HAD THE MOST SAVE OPPORTUNITIES. ABREU HIT A REALLY LOW PITCH AND GOLFED IT INTO THE UPPER DECK. HE DIDNT LEAVE ONE OUT OVER THE PLATE OR PITCHED HIM A MEATBALL. THE BATTER WON THAT BATTLE AND THAT HAPPENS.

<quoted text> And how many guys did he allow in that were already on base? He's the closest thing to Mitch Williams the Indians have. The save stat is retarded. The ERA stat is retarded. The hold stat is retarded. In fact, most baseball stats are a combination of meaningless and retarded.
Don't have that info, but given today's use of closers, likely zero, since closers start and pitch in only the ninth

He's done all season long and he'll do it in the post season, save the game for the Tribe...

Who cares if he gives up a run or two, as long as the good guys (Tribe) win the game...

He might not be the prettiest or sexiest but he's ours and he helped drive this bus to where it is today...

I'd love to be in the position to win a world series with our guy on the mound in the 9th, thats why we play the games...

BTW, to uses the word retarded over and over again shows a lack of intellectual abilities & LaBron James is the new "Queen" of Cleveland....

You have a closer and a setup guy for a reason. You don't have your setup man pitch for the save, unless your closer is out for some reason.
Does anyone know how many blown saves Betancourt has?
17 blown saves, in a total of 29 chances. He has MORE blown saves than saves.
JoBo has a total of 29 blown saves...in his career.
Just deal with the fact he's a good closer. He gets the job done.

Who's talking about his career? We're talking about THIS SEASON. Assuming what you're saying is true, nearly 28% of his career blown saves happened this season alone! I don't care how much some people massage this guy's schlong, that's just plain awful. He's a mediocre closer at best, a major league choker at worst, but he's the best the Indians have. It's why they have to be a few runs ahead in the ninth inning, or they're going to be in big trouble.

So, let's say its game 7, bottom of the ninth and the tribe has a ONE run lead. Betancourt has just blown the Red Sox batters away in 10 pitches in the 8th. This is the season, and the Tribe's first World Series victory in 59 years is at hand. Do you hand JoBo the ball? I sure wouldn't want to be Eric Wedge!
I would say Borowski, unless Borowski has already blown a save in the series by game 7, in that case I think Wedge might go with Betancourt.

Wedge has been slow to make changes this year, but ultimately made moves that helped this squad to the ALCS: benched Barfield and played A. Cabrera , removed Blake from batting second , finally benched Nixon and played Frankie, started playing small ball very well when the situation called for it.

Being a Tribe fan and living in Boston, I would love nothing better than to shut up the Sox fans, and have the Tribe beat the 2 highest payroll teams on their way to a World Series win!

I said it before, after watching the KING Trevor Hoffman blow 2 saves in the last three games to keep San Diego out of the playoffs, I will ever complain about Joe or Wicky again.....

I like the sentiment: "This is our team, and we will win or lose as a team."

Really looking forward to this series though!!

Speaking of blown saves, how happy are we today that Fausto blew those 4 in a row last year? Best four games the Tribe ever lost!

If Wedge doesn't consider Bentancourt or Perez in the ninth, especially deeper into the series, what is he managing? Does the ninth inning automatically mean JoBo? Wedge didn't play much small ball this year either, does that mean to expect the same in the playoffs? It doesn't make sense. The Red Sox are a much better all-round team than the Yankees. The players will need to perform their best and be managed professionally. The series could very easily be lost due to managerial malfeasance.
With regards to Manny and Papi, I'd pitch to the first, and walk the second, when crcumstances permit.
