Cashman is a clown. How do you pass up on a star like Santana by not giving up a backup outfielder and an unproven prospect and Hughes. I know that Hughes has an upside, but come on! Two time Cy Young winner who is only 29, he blew it here people. Kudos to the Mets who showed the moxy to pull off the deal and basically give up nothing for him. Now we here that money was part of the issue, since when is that an issue in the Bronx. Cashman has decided now that he will try and make up for his awful contracts that he signed in the past by not giving up the money for a star who is not over the hill. They got rid of one of the most overated managers in Torre and now they must give rid of the Most overated GM in the league. When you can spend almost twice what the average GM can spend you have win the whole thing, not every year but you have to win sometime, and I mean the whole thing. Am I a spoiled Yankees fan, I guess but what difference does it make if you win in the regular season and lose in the playoffs or you lose in the regular season and dont make the playoffs. The only thing that matters is playoff success and the Yankees are the ones who have created this way of thinking.

Yankees Fan from Nesconset, I'm glad you posted here because you carry the conventional garbage that Melky cannot be a starting centerfielder in all aspects of the game. Do backup outfielders rank near the top in the league in assists? Do they all have as good of range as Melky? Melky did start off slow with the bat, but from June forward he batted .290. Yea he might not hit over 25 hrs in a year, but he is good enough to start and be a good impact on the team. Plus he still has upside at 23 yrs. old.
