Sickening - they can't even handle the fundamentals. Abreu can be as patient as anyone at the plate but can't figure out how to run the bases. As far as clutch - without Jorge and Matsui we have no clutch anymore. Damon can be, but not yesterday. As a diehard Yankee fan, I have to say they are a disgusting team.

Something is missimg wih this team. It is not Joe Torre. He is not doing anything with LA. The word clutch comes to mind. In fairness injuries have been a factor. I have been a fan since 1944 so I am not giving up yet but the time is close. Miracles anyone?

A-Rod batting 220 with men in scoring position is a real problem. As good of a ballplayer he is, he's even better at padding his stats. How many times have we seen him hit a monster home run when we already have a 8 run lead? Then he'll strike out in a one run game with men on base. Mr Clutch? NOT

Every team from time to time try a squeeze play. Why not us?

We have been waiting the whole year to start hitting with men on base and obviously it's not going to happen. So it's time to start playing small ball for a whole game and maybe something good would come up. Jeter has it into almost 19 double plays and I wonder what would have happen if Girardi had some of those runners in motion in those situations. We'll never know won't we?

VERAS THROW A FASTBALL(96 MPH) PAST THE .219 AVG. HITTER NAPOLI CLEARLY OVERMATCHING HIM AND THEM SERVE A BEAUTIFUL CURVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE. I DON'T KNOW WHOSE CALLING THOSE PITCHES, BUT EVEN I THAT DO NOT PLAY IN THE BIG LEAGUES KNOW THAT WAS THE WRONG PITCH TO THROW.

Seems like they were doing better before they made all these supposedly great deals. Xavier Nady reminds me of Arod. His stats look great but he doesn't seem to contribute much to winning.

This may be the year the Yanks don't make the playoffs. Oh well, they had a great run in the past 10+ years. Lotsa other teams would love to have made the playoffs every single year. And lotsa teams have to look much farther back than 2000 to see the last time they won a World Series.

Sports success goes in cycles, and maybe the Yankees are hitting a down cycle.

The problem with the offense, in my opinion, is that the players are very talented - and they know it. So their strategy seems to be "Just wait it out. The bats will start hitting again."

This is the strategy that has gotten them into the playoffs (just barely) and quickly dispatched by superior TEAMS in the first round.

The offense has one job and one job only - SCORE RUNS. They do not need to prove to themselves or anyone else that "We're the Yankees!" They need to get those runs home! It doesn't have to be flashy. Playing ABC baseball is a slump-proof method of scoring runs against any kind of pitching.
