oswald can be as polically correct or incorrect as he chooses to be. he still stinks as a manager.

Lots of comments about the team's not having desire or guts. That's been missing since the All Star break of '06. What happened? Players decided they didn't want to play for a loud mouthed jerk. The stupid manager thought he was the team. Well the team is prooving that he isn't.

Get rid of the bum. And that genius kenneth.

Kenny Williams set the table and Ozzie and his starting pitchers have to work with it.

In 2006 Scott Podsednik suddenly became a head case. Does anybody know what happened to Scott in 2006? He was no longer the smiling, confident guy, wasn't as nice to the press corp....he looked all disheveled, very tired, shaved every week or so. Someone said it was because he got married. LOL!!

He got worse in 2007 with the shaved head & injuries. Cubs tried to get him off waivers in 2007 but Kenny Williams blocked it by telling the Cubs "we want a little something, too...." Then KW dumps Scott in the offseason without getting anything for him. Scott fought his way onto the Colorado Rockies, he took away a job from one of their players, was the Rockies CF. Saw Scott in May when the Rockies played the Cubs...Scott stole 2nd and 3rd in 1 inning. He plays best under terror. Rockies were going to dump him right before the All-Star break and that's when Pods had the best games of his career so he stays.

Sox need speed, younger players, base stealing, Ozzie ball.

Without the basics the Sox have become dull. Taking their focus off bunting, base stealing, pick off plays, consistent hitting, and everything else that keeps a team sharp and confident. Sox have a bad history of stranding runners. Hitting into the double plays. They are old and lazy.

The most excitement the White Sox generate is in the dugout doing all that jumping up and down. Hey bring that out to the field, ok?

Kenny Williams and his penchant for old tired millionaire players, that's got to stop. He himself was so surprised by the diamonds in the rough: 20-somethings Quentin & Alexi Ramirez that KW almost fell off his chair.

My buddies are betting that KW trades Quentin & Ramirez to the Yankees. I'm starting to believe them.

When you go through all the layers, I think KW is the real problem here.

Yeah, it means they can't even beat the top half of the league.
Which teams make it to the playoffs? I can't remember, top or bottom half?

BTW, it's not spelled "arguement". WOW

That is a great post.
I don't think there is any question that Kenny is a major problem, there are few who are fooled by the total package that is now the White Sox, top to bottom, dollar for dollar, there is no team in baseball in worse shape. The next few years should open the eyes of those who cannot see what is clear to almost anyone who has ever watched a baseball game before. If the Sox become the next Pirates, this will be the time that people look back to as were it went over the edge.
Hey thanks! I agree with you that the Sox will turn into the Pirates and be the whipping boys of the AL with all those empty seats. It's going over the edge right now. I hate saying all this, I go to a lot of Sox games.

If Minn. & Detroit were having stellar years in 2008, where would the White Sox be in the standings? Still in 1st?

It all "starts at the top", doesn't it? 2005 was their year. 2006 was a he*l*l-ish mess winning 90 games & still out of it. But 2006 they were riding the 2005 gravy train except KW dumped the bullpen that got them there; Hermanson was done; KW got rid of Rowand & never put that CF back together.

Ozzie is driving a heavy bus full of KW's screw-ups. The only 2 players who were in the 2008 plans to be bench sitters or in the minors---(Quentin & Ramirez) well, you still hear KW expressing astonishment about Q&R when he shouldn't be! It wouldn't surprise me if KW trades them away but that hasn't happened yet but it won't surprise me if it happens. KW's got this passive-aggressive style that I hate.

It would be a good thing if KW trades away Owens and the injured Josh Fields. IMO, those two guys make me sick. They bring back too many bad memories from the nightmare of 2007 when Kenny turned the White Sox into the minors. And bringing up MacDougal in the September call-ups...that's the black cat thrown into the bullpen. MacDougal was thrown off the team early in 2008 for a reason. He's bad news. He's poison. I saw his first pitch as a White Sox player was a wild pitch and AJ just stood there for 2 seconds glaring at him and then ran to get the ball. Right there I said "LOSER!!!!"

What do you think? Is Kenny Williams a self-destructive GM? He brings in the exact opposite of what a good GM should bring in: old guys and bad relievers. He sees them as improvements! When he brought in Griffey, Jr. I thought he should have been fired. But somebody upstairs loves him.

The rest: Royals pitching; Griffey, Jr. those are deliberate, well thought out trades on Kenny Williams' part because that is what he wants on this team, old veterans with injuries, sore backs=bench-sitters and relief pitchers that even the Royals don't want!!!!

As Cowley just said on Boers & Bernstein, "KW's pretty stubborn" and that's obvious. He's not flexible.

As B&B just read: "KW 'put together the 2005 team'". That's where it all starts, at the top. He can put together a winner and he can also destroy it.

P.S. Man, I am SO glad the Cubs are getting their a*s*ses handed to them today. Wow!!! Big Z storms off the mound before Pinella gets there. EXCELLENT!(Sorry about the outburst).

Your agreeing with the same guy that said at the begining of the season that the sox would be fighting the Royals for last place. FOr all this knowledge that he displays about being such a baseball expert, why does he waste 10hrs a day? Why does he not have a job with ESPN, coaching MLB, or even being a GM. Heck even coaching college or something.

Your point is moot due to the fact that your statement is that of a woulda shoulda coulda. What ifs can be throw out the window, point is WHAT IS going on is that the Sox are in 1st place. They took advantage of the meltdown of Cleveland and Detroit and won games. May not of been text book fundamental baseball, but then again find me ONE team that does not have flaws. All do. IF no teams had any flaws you would be seeing undefeated teams.

Oh and the sox didnt have a disappointing 2006 season, If you would of told me the tigers were going to go to the WS that year, I would of laughed, as would of anybody. the Tigers in 06 were like the sox in 05. Then in 06 the sox were ok and were the tigers in 07. Now in 08 with the signing of willis and cabrera the tigers are like the sox of 07. You all critize sox GM for making bad moves, yet its ok to have a horrible 43 year old kenny rogers and a mediocre pitching staff. Granted we have an unknown age pitcher in Contreras, but Danks and Floyd were great additions. People can look at stats and play GM all they want. It is fun, but some people (not you take it too seriously). That being said this Sox season was a huge upswing from last year. Kenny does have some good part to build on for next year. You have Buerhle, Danks, and Floyd as a good 1-2-3 punch, and Javi is not a bad 4th or 5th starter. Then you have Alexi, CQ, Dye, AJ,(the good) Konerko, Thome, and Uribe as a base. YOu have Jenks, THorton, and Linebrink. So you add a pitcher, dump majority of the bullpen and get some new guys (not from K.C.), and add a strong leadoff hitter. All is not Doom and Gloom on the south side of Chicago.

I see your point and Kenny's. here are some young pitchers that throw 96+ MPH. Yes they are on the royals, but the royals obviously do a poor job of player development. So Kenny thought if Coop worked with them, they would be very dominate. MacDouglal and Sisco, a very young righty/lefty combo that can gun the ball 96+ MPH. I can see how that would be enticing. However that experiment never worked out, same with Oh-Dotell and that lefty Ramirez pitcher they picked up. I would think that Kenny has realized the Young K.C. pitching experiment is over.

This is a mediocre team whose pitching staff was playing above their heads in the first half. Especially the relievers that our friend Joe Morgan called the best in the history of baseball (yes, he actually said that). I've been a huge Sox fan for almost 40 years and just never fell in love with this team. Too slow, too undisciplined at the plate, too weak defensively, too many veterans having dismal years.
With that said they still have an excellent shot at the playoffs if one or two guys could get hot. The amazing thing is that they would probably be in position to clinch this weekend if Quentin doesn't get injured.
Has anyone else noticed that as soon as Morgan flapped his gums about the WS having the BEST bullpen, they immediately tanked....I think it was that Sunday night game against the Cubs in late June...since then the bullpen has looked worse than Rosie in a bikini.

I hate to say it cause I love the Sox but Minn. is going to win this division and everyone in the media will say, "Hey, it was a great season, who thought they would wind up second?" Yeah, because Minn. is more fundamental, Det. and Cleve. choked big time, and the Sox with highest payroll in the central, totally underperformed. KW is stuck with all these OLD, slow, overpaid players for at tleast two more seasons. Don't expect much change next year. More Contreras, more Thome, more Konerko, more Buerhle, more Uribe, more inept relief pitching. Want the Sox to win but the Rays will just destroy them in the first round ala 2000 with Manuel and the Sox being comatose in the Seattle series. KW is the problem. Kenny, for the second straight year, your bullpen imploded. YOU'RE FIRED!!!

compared to teh 2005 championship team, Ozzie is waaayyyyy toned down AND has been trying not to ruffle anyone's feather. So, Ozzie HAS been trying to be politically correct.

As for kenny williams....HE'S a pussyman. kenny williams would rather blame and let the ship go down then try to save the sinkin ship.

Why is it, that all the divisional top teams come into Yankee Stadium, and play like a bunch of third graders...it happens all the time. I think somebody should check the water in the visitors dugout and locker room!!
