They still need a big bat to protect A-Rod. Teams will pitch around him. Look at the World Series winners the last few years they have all have one thing in common, two big boppers in the middle of their lineups. With these two signings we should be able to dangle either Hughes or Kennedy to get a good young prospect or two from someone.

Yes, sign Texiera. First base has been a joke since Mattingly retired. And sign Manny to DH. With the addition of those 2, the team is complete!

Manny couldn't play for Francona and quit on the Sox. The first time 20 NYC media asked him why he didn't get a key hit or after he misplayed a ball in left, he would do the same on the Yanks.

A lot of players rack up numbers while rarely playing on a contender in a pennant race.$160 mill is a lot for a player that may or may not be able to handle 38 games a year with the Sox and Rays in a pennat race .

i rather see nady in right than manny. nady might not have the bat but you can guarantee he wont take at bats off or entire games off. and hes a much better fielder than manny. an outfield of damon-cameron-manny would be a defensive liability.

Don't want Manny but if we cant get Tex I might try and get him for two years with some options attached if he behaves. I dont get why they wouldnt go after tex. He would fit perfectly in our 3 hole now that bobby's gone. And if we singed tex (20 mil) and pettite (10 mil) we are still under budget from last year. Pettite and tex and we are instant favorites for #27.

I would like to have Abreau back! The guy is a real professional hitter who makes a pitcher work hard. Arod and anyone else hitting after him definately gets to see a lot of pitches before they step into the batters box.

I would not be adverse to re-signing Abreu if he lowers his demands. The Yanks night be willing to go say 2 years in the 18-20 million range. He says he wants to come back to NY. I could envision some form of a five man rotation (Abreu, Damon, Matsui, Cameron/Melky, and Nady) in the three outfield spots and DH. Barring injury. Everyone would get into about 130 games, enough to be happy and enough rest to stay sharp. The second best place for Abreu may be across town in left field, although the Mets might prefer a righty bat.

CASHMAN - Wake Up - Say Adios to Andy (Steroid - Liar ) Pettitte. Sign Tex and fill Rotation spot with either SHEETS - Hughs, Coke, Acceves or Kennedy . . . We need offense and a REAL First Baseman. . . . Remember this is the New York Yankees . . . Next year we have $36 Million off the Payroll - We can make the numbers work for Tex this year. Cameron is a Bum - to many strikeouts . . .

I guess I'm a rare bird in that I still like Melky! Cameron has been very good, but here we are getting older again! If we don't sign Tex, and it looks that way, we will be short on power. I'm not wanting us to totally abandon the youth movement, so free agent signings or trades need to be well thought out. Please don't do Manny Ramirez. That opens up another concern: defense.

Signing Abreu would be nothing better than status quo at best. If its going to take 18-20 mil to sign him, I'd rather Yanks throw in a few extra mil per year and sign Manny! Pitchers don't fear Abreu. Imagine AROD batting before Manny? Much more dangerous than AROD batting after Abreu. What's the use of AROD seeing more pitches first if the pitchers pitch around him. With Manny behind him, they have to pitch to him! Look at what Manny did for Ortiz!

Also, "professional" hitter is a nice way of saying "boring". Say what you want about Manny, but he is a great hitter. I'd still rather have a batter that strikes fear in the opposing pitcher than a batter that makes a pitcher work. Manny makes them work and strikes fear. When Manny's at the plate, I stay and watch. I can't say the same for Abreu.

I didn't realize it was an either, or situation. I wasn't comparing Abreau to Manny. Abreau in the 3 hole and Manny 5th would be interesting!

I'd like to have Abreu back too Jim..only problem,he's 36..and wants a 3 year deal..1 and an option..is all he's worth now..think the Yanks would sign him..if Abreu would go with that...
