While we're at it how about the legitimacy of Cal Ripkens consecutive game streak. There is the distinct possibility that he was using amphetamines "greenies" to allow him to play on days that he might not otherwise have played, especially toward the end of the strek. Were they illegal in baseball at the time? No, but then neither were steroids. If someone is going to taint homerun records then why not this one?

Mr. Fitzpatrick, who's to say any of the names you mentioned in this article aren't one of the 103 others testing positive in the 2003 survey or have used or are using PED. It will be impossible to ever legitimize the HR record during this era, if steroid use is the reason for disqualification. None of is God or the judge and jury for everyone's opinion. Believe it or not, there are still some misguided people out there that believe Hank Aaron was not the true HR-king after Ruth. Their reason? He's a black man. So let's be honest here, the record and all records are open to debate based on an infinite number of criteria. Oh, and by the way, as far as I know Barry Bonds has not admitted to PED use and has not been proven to be lying about his PED use.

When might baseball have a legitimate HR king?

When there is a commissioner the likes of Kenesaw Mountain Landis, who will enforce a clean sweep of drug abuse among players. Remeber Landis not only barred players who conspired in the "Black Sox" scandal but also those who knew of it and said nothing.

Any player, trainer, coach, manager, agent or other party conspiring by silence should be barred from the game for life, as well as those actively engaged in substance abuse. I would not limit that to "performance enhancing" drugs, but spell out exactly the extent of what is includable.

Nothing less will restore legitimacy.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Virgo

Words are flying around in all directions today, and the conversations will be fast and furious. You might face a lot of distractions and interruptions, or you could get caught up in some rather irritable slanging matches with a certain person. The busier you are, the more fraught you'll become and the more likely to go off the deep end.
