Before I read the account of the trouble in the 7th inning, I was ready to knock Manuel for pulling a Bowa and going to the bullpen due to some pre-set cookbook formula. I was glad to hear that he tried to let Lohse work through it. Pitch counts are not a reason, in my opinion, to automatically go to the bullpen.
Tough loss but there still is time to make it up.

The bullpen has hung in there and done better than expected most times. Charlie has improved as a NL strategist. In previous seasons he still had the old AL mentality but he is understanding now how to manage a NL team. The negaitivity towards Charlie is getting old. This team has stayend in contention despite injuries. This weekend was a bad series but they will be back! Especially playing the Dodgers who are in decline!

People on this board drive me nuts. So a 65-58 record is terrible? Especially with all the injuries. We could be 52-70 like the Pirates. The Eagles have an unbelievable track record for getting to the playoffs in the last decade, which is more to be said for the other teams in the division. Get a clue before you speak.

Gee whiz. Publishing the NL East and NL wild card standings on the front page of the sports section as if they are the only races that matter. TMC doing what they have done the past few seasons in that regard.

No wonder fans of other teams hope the end result is the same as in the last couple years. Give us a sports section and not a fanzine.

It's been reported that Antonio Alfonseca has a tender ankel. Well, its no wonder. He needs to lose about 60 lbs. if he wants to help the team out. The same goes for Mike Zagurski.
Alfonseca has generally pitched well. He was thought to have been washed up but most of this year he has done a great job. Just like a lot of pitchers in the bullpen he is starting to wear down. Zagurski is a young kid who is inconsistent. He will either figure it out or fade away into obscurity.

This area is 60 miles away from Philadelphia so obviously people are interested in the nearby team. I do agree that NY teams should be covered better since they are also close and many from NY now live here.

Only occasionally do you see a minor league score from Scranton printed. Trenton and Harrisburg are close but you almost never see those scores printed.

One of the biggest stories in baseball in the past two weeks was in Scranton recently before being called up. Did the Call go to Scranton to check him out? No. Print scores in the paper? Like I wrote, only occasionally do they do that.

It'll be interesting in a week or two when the football preview comes out. Once again, there will probably be extremely scant coverage of the AFC, never mind their recent dominance of Super Bowls.
