The Twins need to get Mauer signed to a long term contract before they think about deals for a pricey 40 year old DH who would spend most of his time sitting on the bench without being in the batting order. We've heard more about signing Thome than about getting Mauer an extension. After Mauer signs an extension, the Twins need to invest in pitching, particular in a top starter who matches up with Sabbathia or Lester.

Good and go sign the golden boy. The unfortunate reality is that this organization will never go get (pay for) the pieces needed to help him bring the Twins another championship. This team will never be more than a Division Champ and yet if you let the golden boy walk there is no guarantee that they would spend the saved money to put pieces together to really WIN. So enjoy watching one of the game's best be one of the best to never have WON.

I guess Grandpa and his 400 average projectio9n cant and wonthappen in MN.
I watch Sportcenter. Joe didnt' look tohappy after that game 1. I t looked liked the most important thing on joes agenda was winning that World Series ring. I dont want hate better . I dont' want to remember that Homerun Thome hit in the Metrodome when he stepped up to the plate with 47 homers and Joey was a rookie.
so. THats my take on it. Us as an organization looked like we used Nicolas P. to cover-up a
money grubbing opperation.

Who do you suggest there genius? Is there a magic island out there where pitchers of that caliber are just sitting around waiting for a contract offer? There are no free agents available that match up with two of the best pitcher is the league.

Twins- either do it or don't do it. Seriously, how hard is this one to figure out? Even us stupid non-baseball folks know it will be $22-$25 million a year or so to lock him up. Write a real number down, let them counter too high and settle in the middle. Then pick a number of years, they counter- and settle in the middle. It's not like this contract is getting held up because of a $50k bonus for making the all-star team or anything idiotic like that.

I normally don't comment on people's grammar because I make mistakes too, but frankly "Randy Moss" I have absolutely no clue what you are trying to say.

The only thing I did understand was that you thought Joe had a so-so year. Really? I don't know what you were watching last summer but it wasn't Joe Mauer. I saw one of the best seasons by a catcher since nearly forever. What were you watching? I have no idea.

By the way, when you use an apostrophe, it is used between the letters, not after them. It's "didn't" and NOT "didnt'."

The Twins might have moved earlier on some of the better free agents that were available, but they aren't necessarily limited to free agents. The Twins have a lot of young talent in the minors. They might be able to wheel and deal a bit for a top rated pitcher.

One option still on the market, though a tremendous gamble in the order of a Joe Crede, might be Erik Bedard. Yes, admittedly a huge risk, but at his best, he is a lights out pitcher, and a lefty. He might come cheap, too, because of his record of injuries. It doesn't look, however, as if he could be ready for the beginning of spring training. Otherwise, the Twins are looking at either Duensing, Liriano, or Perkins to round out the rotation, since they'll want a lefty to go with Pavano, Baker, Slowey, and Blackburn, all righties.

It's going to be an interesting run for the division championship this year. Chicago is changing it's offensive face, but the basis of their 2010 appears to be pitching. Peavy gives the White Sox someone in the Lester, Sabbithia category. Hopefully, the White Sox won't be able to generate a lot of runs because they're going to have some tough pitching.

The Twins should sign Mauer, period. If in the future the team's revenue makes it impossible to keep Joe then they could trade him, although that would be a concession to mediocrity that would decimate the fan base. Mauer is worth a $20million per year contract.
