Trachsel, offense provide boost

Full story: Baltimore Sun

It was more of a hint than a directive, but the message was sent. Orioles veteran starter Steve Trachsel needed to give the Orioles a chance to win last night after failing to accomplish that task in three of ...

I have said that Trachsel was a good pitcher BEFORE tonight, in several of my previous posts. In 2001, the Mets sent him down to AAA for a month. He made adjustments while down at AAA, and came back to be the ace of the Mets' staff for a few years. Tonight he was not great, but he was pretty good. Only time will tell if he can continue to pitch well. GO TRACHSEL!

I didn't think Trachsel was capable of winning but he proved me wrong. What in the world has happened to Luke Scott? He looks so over matched. It seems as though he has lost all confidence in his ability as a hitter. Maybe they just know how to pitch him. GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!

A good win, somewhat bittersweet though. I had almost hoped that Trachsel's days would be numbered after a bad performance last night, I guess we will have to endure a full season. Oh well my expectations for him and the season are mirror images, so maybe I will continue to be pleasantly surprised,

Luke got the flu two weeks back and has only recently gotten his strength back, his confidence from trying to play through the ailment has eroded. The solution is probably just a 3 hit game to get him rolling again but these things can snowball once confidence is lost.

Trachsel, 37, said. "It's definitely nothing I haven't gone through before. That probably helped."

And it's nothing he won't go through again if the O's give him the chance.

Trachsel was lucky he didn't give up more than the 2 runs; his "stuff" his below average and a average hitting team RAKES him! Trachsel's starting spot needs to be given to Johnson NOW! Trachsel again looked very shaky, but a bad Royals team heped him go 5 innings - wow, I am soooo underwhelmed.

I agree: Trachsel needs to leave the rotation ASAP. But he did get the curve over, and kept the ball down in the zone. Of course, this was for one night and was against light hitting KC, so he'll have to do this another 4 or 5 times for me to believe anything has truly changed with his stuff.

I've been thinking of old Earl the last two nights: pitching and the 3 run homer. Yeah, the relievers were shaky, but Aubrey's shot to make it 5-2 is the kind of thing done on a semi-regular basis that can keep us at the .500 mark.

If Trachsel has a couple more decent outings in a row they may be able to get a prospect for him. He's had his days in the sun and made a lot of money. Young guys are bunching up for his spot.
Tillman just threw a 1 hitter over six.

Trachsel will soon be 38, young for most things, but not for pitching in the major leagues. His pitches are not up to snuff and haven't been since the Orioles picked him up. He has been referred to as Steve Trashsel on this web site many times by Oriole fans who are fed up with his and the Orioles mediocrity. He pitched very lucky last night and made it through half the game so I guess with the low expectations the Orioles have this year that is good enough. But in my opinion his kind of veteran leadership shelled 2 out of every 3 games he pitches, is not needed on this team.

A) learn to spell my hometowns name.
B) 6 teams use the nickname as a road jersey and they look fine doing so.
C) Just 3 weeks until the deadline for uniform changes and you can go away one way or the other at that point.

When he does well, I always say, I told you he was a solid pitcher.

When he sucks, I tell everyone we ought to trade him.

I'll tell you something else, if Trembley wins the next game, let's keep him. If he loses, let's fire him. As a matter of fact, everytime he loses, let's fire him but rehire him when the team wins.

Know what else? I think somebody ought to beat up Luis Hernandez. Actually, anybody on the team that's in a slump should be beaten up by Dave Trembley, than Dave should be fired for assaulting his players.

RELAX EVERYONE, I just got back from a Jim Rome seminar on how to be a fair weather fan and change your deeply held opinions to make people like you and listen to what you have to say. I'm thinking about asking for a refund, cuz, when you put this stuff in writing, you just don't look so smart.

I agree with what you are writing. Look at my post above on Trachsel. I have supported BOTH Trembley AND Trachsel BEFORE last night's game. When Trachsel was with the Mets, they sent him down to AAA when he was struggling.Trachsel proceeded to become the Mets' perennial ace for the next five years. Trembley is not afraid to go against the grain, keeping his starters in for eight and sometimes nine innings. I supported Trembley EVEN AFTER A LOSS, when he left the starter in for the eight inning in a 2-2 game that they went on to lose. This team will win at least 86 games.

Message to all whiners: In March, the prospect of .500 -- even at this early point in the season -- would have seemed fanciful, if not impossible. The O's have been in almost every game so far, taking a few lumps, sure, but inflicting a few as well. Better yet, they have signs of life, energy and spunk seldom seen in recent years. So they're not the '27 Yankees yet but they're not the '07 Birds either (or the '08 Tigers) for that matter.) They're so far fun to watch, fun to root for and better than most people expected. There's joy in that.
