Let go of Reyes as he turns twenty-eight?
Are you hallucinating? Really?
We will have him extended by then. Twenty- eight-none, thirty, thirty one, Those should be the Jose years we have all been salivating over for the past 5.

you could also look at the nature of the injuries.

I didn't see them thrive with A-Rod down. Love to see their system replace A-Rod, Teixeira and Jeter at once for a long period of time. Doubt this article would be so glowing

No doubt the Mets farm system is a joke, which is another reason why Omar should be gone from here.

But the Yankees are interesting in that they're going to need their farm system big time in the coming years, as they won't be able to buy all the replacements they need.

Posada (37), Jeter (35), Damon (35), Matsui (35), Rivera (37) and even A-Rod is almost 34 and who knows how he'll hold up after years of Juice abuse.

flores, too precious? too rare? montero is 5 times the prospect flores is. he is only 19 and killing the minors. he's a top 5 mid-season prospect for baseball america. how is he expendable?

Prospects are just that-prospects! Neither of them are ready for the major league rosters. They're still developing! I've seen a lot of "can't miss" prospects never make it!

Agree with James. You kind of dismiss Montero as a "trade chip" - he's the #3 prospect in all of baseall according to Baseball America and the Yanks haven't had an impact bat come thru their system in a while.
They'll find a position for him. Be it DH or LF. But he's untouchable.

Montero will be the starting NY Yankee catcher next year.

Strawberry won 4 championships and Ted Williams none.. so Straw did pretty well considering he had addiction problems and cancer to overcome. Addiction you know like the one you have for posting garbage about everything and anything concerning the Mets..

Read carefully Flores is a SS and the Mets have no one except for Reyes while the Yanks have many catchers prospects and major leaguers.. At no time did davidoff say or imply Flores was better, just more valuable to the Mets..

Down the pipe? Isn't the expression "down the pike," as in turnpike? Maybe the subhed writer, probably not Davidoff, is smoking one!

I think if Montero is ready by 2011, that would be great. He just need to work on his defense, and footwork. Also there are other big catchers in the game, Mauer and the kid from Baltimore are both taller than Montero. Scouts are not foolproof in evaluating talent!

Cervelli is the catcher of the future. Handles pitchers well and throws better than average. Montero will have to play the OF, DH, or back-up lb if he can.

17 years old. Already 6-3, 175. His future isn't at SS. It's at 3b or at an outfield corner.

His future has nothing to do with Reyes.

Montero won't be ready next year (possibly a September callup), he is 19, just recently went to AA, by 2011, he will be 21 and Posada will be in the last year and hopefully the DH then. I like Cervelli, not convinced he is anything more than a quality backup. Time will tell on both.

strawberry never lived up to his potential, he never won a mvp, never hit more then 39 home runs in a season, no met ever won mvp or threw a no hitter, the whole orgization has overvalued talent - they by passed reggie jackson 45 years ago too, they knew lasting millege was trouble and yet all your heard was he was the savior, they have nobody in the minors and no money to sign anyone, its going to be a long time before they contend again, and players like santana want out this is not what they signed up for

He won 4 rings like I said.. So basically it has very little to do with Strawberry the player and more about your childish hatred for the Mets.
Never heard anyone say Milledge was a savior or that Santana wants out. Proves one thing your delusional with hatred for the Mets.. Let me guess your first GF who dumped you was a Met fan.. Get over it!!
