Getting rid of Ramon Hernandez will help a lot, however,it won't fix the curse. Perfectly good relievers have passed through B'more in recent years, and had their worst seasons here. What gives?

it's ok to sign on or two free agents providing they are young, healthy and if a pitcher, sign for no more than 3 yrs. you can't win signing a lot of free agents and you should only sign free agents who are relatively young. players coming into their prime or young players who show some success in the big leagues and are very young. the reality is you must develop the core of your roster and fill in a spot or two with free agents. right now the o's look good for their outfield, catcher, 2nd base, where ever you want to put hoff and that's about it. mora has no more than a yr or 2 left. ss is an issue. and starting pitching is an issue. if the orioles were smart they should have their minor league starting pitchers working every 4th day rather than ever 5th day. that system worked for decades in the big leagues and with the lack of major league pitching you need those starters to pick up 6 to 8 more starts a yr. and this would give you more flexibility on your bench.

There has been no indication for years that any significant free agent pitcher has any interest in coming to Baltimore. That's just the way it is. Our track record for the past 10 years is scary bad and no player of All-Star caliber will want to subject himself to this kind of punishment. It's the ultimate Catch-22. The only way I can see out of this is some good old fashioned trading-somewhat of a lost art because of free agency. If McPhail wants to stockpile the minor league system with pitchers, so be it but that won't translate into any kind of major improvement unless somebody starts teaching these kids how to pitch. The latest wave of pitchers that have come up are helpless, clueless and completely useless. Sorry to sound so harsh but we've all witnessed the brutality since the All-Star break. If McPhail wants to see a more competitive team out on the field next year, he better get his trading cap on and get down and dirty. He can start by unloading Daniel Cabrera and the rest of these pitiful pitchers.(if anyone will want them-good luck!)

Especially look at the 1966 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS roster (look at the 1969 Mets too and how they beat the Orioles like the Orioles beat the Dodgers in 66). Yeah, I'll bet that team didn't have many free agents.....BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS FREE AGENCY. I swear. O's fans must have to fail a test or something.

The Orioles are minor league in every way. What other major league team would: Keep sending Jamie Walker out there to get lit up just because they made a mistake with his contract? Keep Ramon Hernandez in the lineup just because they made a mistake in signing him. He is lazy, unprofessional, disinterested, and an embarrassment. Barely waves at catchable pitches, refuses to EVER block the plate, and in general is a bad influence on other players? Continue to draft and move pitchers through the minor leagues that can't even throw the ball over the plate or go five innings? Changes pitching coaches every other year rather than, starting in the minors, just insist the pitchers throw strikes (or be demoted or released)? Had Syd Thrift as their GM? Fired Davey Johnson, Pat Gillick, et al? Have a clueless, narcissistic owner, with a Napoleanic complex, and his two sons, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb, who have absolutely ZERO baseball knowledge or experience, running the team? Have not scouted or signed one single Pacific Rim player, while other teams are loaded with such talent? Had a Latin American minor league complex that barely passed for a Little League field? Had mutliple GMs, co-GMs, and unqualified GMs, to go along with an owner who not let the GM be a GM? Have an owner who gives not a damn about the fans and basically says, "I'm proud to be an idiot" with every ever-increasing stupid move? Still have no idea where Spring Training will be next year?
These are just a few things to ponder while I catch my breath.

Have the players packed it in already? We know there isn't any pitching but, there hasn't been very much fight as of late and we aren't talking about the best that the league has to offer in competition!

Well same old Orioles. The Angelos era needs to end. He has edestroyed a once proud franchise. Now it is an example to the rest of MLB how not to build a franchise. SELL TO CAL PLEASE!!! Another losing season in the books.

Say it ain't so! A.J. Burnett is exactly the kind of player the Orioles cannot afford to sign. He's injury prone. He's expensive. He won't ever be a part of an Orioles future winning team. No, the Orioles need to "stay the course" and develop players from within. They are much too far away from contending to be signing free agents.

They can't develop their own, they can't get top tier free agents, so this is really all that's left for them.
