Loewen turns down O's to sign with Blue Jays

Full story: Baltimore Sun

If Adam Loewen is going to make a successful transition into a power-hitting outfielder or first baseman, it won't be in an Orioles uniform.

It doesn't matter one way or another. He won't make it to the major leagues. But what it does tell you is why it's so difficult for this team to acquire anybody in free agency except the left overs that nobody else wants. The orioles can't even resign somebody that was suppose to be loyal to them. No matter what andy tells the fans of this town , this is just another example of how dysfunctional this organization is and just how far away we are from getting back to be respected.

Every time reality sneaks its way into the fantasy world of core O's fans, they react with anger.

Why is it a shock when a player wants to avoid Baltimore baseball? The team is buried in last place. The owner pays his best player, Markakis, the minimum salary after three years of superior performance.

The front office changes leadership more often than they change paper towels in the bathroom. Hollow promises are made every year, and gullible fans line up behind "the plan of the day" as espoused by the FO.

Loewen wasn't loyal. True. But why be loyal to such a dysfunctional business?

By the way, there's a very interesting thread on OH about infighting within the FO.

An insider indicated that Stockstill doesn't even detail his information on computer.

Imagine that. In this age of video on cell phones, the Baltimore Orioles' execs are not even using desktop PC's.

Heck, nothing surprises me. I remember it was just a couple of years ago when the minor league teams started using video cameras, because Angelos wouldn't approve the "expense."

Spend millions in signing bonuses, but skip the $500 on the digital video of the players' progress.

Brilliant.

As a fan, I can watch detailed video (on the Internet), of just about every good prospect FOR FREE. Here's a very good site:

http://www.baseball-intellect.com/Articles/sc...

Now, try to imagine that executives for the Baltimore Orioles have no ability to do the same thing for their own players!!!

Some of you say I'm NEGATIVE for calling out this pathetic organization for things like this. I'm being a realist.

Loewen was a long shot to make that transition anyway and if he does it will take 2 or 3 years. I can somewhat agree with Ghost but it is also symtomatic of what is wrong with the game today. The O's were very patient with loewen even though he showed very little at the major league level, and they were poised to give him the time to make the transition. He was as much a part of the O's pitching problem as anyone. Yes it is somewhat a reflection of the O's as an organization, but it really reflects the lack of character on Loewen's part.

When I saw him walk off the field back in July I never expected to see him again. Aside from that I have learned to take the good with the bad, Guthrie from that very same draft class was picked up on waivers and is producing as we would have hoped Loewen would have. My only caveat to the good fans is to accept these things and move on and never, ever fall in love with the name on the back of the jersey, only the frontside. Exactly 4 months until the first Grapefruit League game, can't wait.

Joe the sad thing about you is even when somebody makes valid points and can back that up you still try and twist it.It must be so sad to be joe that he doesn't have anything better to do then wait and watch for that first grapefruit game.I guess you can't go to the opera every day. We have the breeder's cup today on tv the most prestigious races all year, we have great college football on today , we have the world series tonight and joe Can't fu--ing wait for the first grapefruit game. I use to respect some of your postings joe even if i didn't always agree with them but i know now without any doubt you are a sick and delusional man stuck in some dream that will never happen.

Sick and delusional? That coming from someone who wants to fight people on Internet message boards? Someone who has actually driven to a location with the purpose of fighting them becaause you were upset by their postings. Yeah Bob you're a paragon of health. You should be roommates with John Hinkley.

I agree. I don't think people are getting upset with Loewen because they think he's going to come back and haunt us as some power hitting 1st baseman for the Jays. It's a matter of character and principle. Looking at the circumstances and reading McPhail's comments it doesn't take a genius to see that he lied to the O's and McPhail. As fans of the Orioles all we've been told for the past 10 years is how no free agents want to come here and how we're playing with "confederate money" because nobody will take it. Yes, this is a direct result of the mismanagement of the franchise by Angelos but it doesn't mean it still doesn't sting when another player disses us, no matter the reason. Unfortunately these things will continue to happen until Angelos dies or sells the team.

Another ungrateful athlete. Another guy to root against. Another step bak for the Orioles. Another deal not closed. Another "it's not you, it's me". Tell me, when is a guy going to leave a team because he always wanted to be in Baltimore?

Suddenly, I really hate this guy. The Orioles did all they could to give him an opportunity and he pushed them aside. I hope I buy a car from him someday....soon.

Joe,

In the face of overwhelming results, facts, and experience, you still cling to the hope that the Orioles' front office is a well-run entity.

It's cute. Kind of like believing in the Tooth Fairy.

Keep on pretending. Maybe Flanagan will leave a dollar under your pillow. He has nothing to do, and a dollar is his approved spending limit.

Amen Ghost.it's truly amazing after all the continued disappointments that the orioles have given there fans , that they still have people like joe and forrest gump believing almost to the death about something that will never happen. That kind of loyalty can only be achieved by being in some kind of trance and not having all your faculties

I can dual process Bob, I can post on other baseball sites and keep the mis-informed posters here honest as well. How could you drive your car to another location to fight someone though? And over what? I mean after a few miles I would think most any sane person would say, "what am I doing?"

It takes time to turn around an organization I understand that, the good knowlegable fans get that. And results are hard to see right away, in the face of years of neglect. Its sort of like Bob losing 10 pounds to go from 350 lbs to 340 lbs, its a change and a good one but its hard to see unless you look real hard.

I don't know the history between Bob and Joe here, but what I can clearly see is Bob is avoiding the question.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
