I think your stereotypes of each other are a bit off course. Almost every Sox fan (and Cardinal fan, for that matter) think that male Cubs fans are either gay or effeminate, and women at Wrigley are mindless bimbos glued to their cell phones. I get sick of this constant stereotype (because it is tiresome, nit because there is anything wrong with being gay), and frankly, have never been accused of buying wine by the case (I prefer beer anyway).
Sox fans are more "macho" and would probably deck anyone who calls them gay (I would say they are a bit homophobic). And, yes, you are right: both teams are struggling and it is not as intense as in years past. Still, my Cubs have to win to save face. |

This is really the battle of suck and no one cares.After all neither of these teams care so why should the fans.

My friends and I have discussed this, as well. Our consensus was that neither team gave us any reason to get fired up. Both teams are middling. Even the stars are mediocre. Both front office made moves that were unpopular with the fans during the off-season.
Why get worked up about teams that aren't giving the fans what they want? |

Hopefully the city series will be cancelled and Cubs can play more varied teams.It always has been all hype and no baseball.... all media driven

Hey Morissey, When did you get a job in the PR Dept. for both the Sox and Cubs? I think fans of both teams are a little apethetic towards their respective teams and throw in the economy and your not getting the real fans at the games anyway.But I will be watching.
GO SOX!!!! |

Why should fans act like they care? The players don't.

I know this is too radical, but if you merged leagues and had a division with the Cubs, Sox, Brewers, Twins, Cardinals and Royals competing against each other, then those 'natural rival' series would mean something. Since I don't live in Chicago, Cubs-Sox isn't a big deal, but Cubs-Cards or Cubs-Brewers is.

Cut the series from six to three per season, and that would get me excited.

Maybe its because they play each other too often and the novelty has worn off. Cut it back to 1 series a year or every other year.
Now its time for my pre-game stretch so I can let off my primal shrug for the series this weekend. |

There's something humorous about reading the pleas of journalists to have their readers and sports fans visit this magical world they've built up (e.g., a frenzied Cubs-Sox rivalry), and to see them blather when their grand visions crumble (i.e., we couldn't care less).

Fans reflect the economy and job market: a big fat zero. Not in the mood to watch millionaires play ball employed by millionaire owners.
Pitch AJ chin music just like Detroit did. I want to see him through a hissy fit. How about a good bench-clearing brawl? Let's see these two listless Shy-town teams show some life in the Big Show. I have driven past Cellular on the Dan Ryan or whatever and I am not impressed. It's ugly. Is it better inside? |

This interleague play is making me crazy. Sure, I want the Sox to beat the snot out of the cubs, that's a given! But I was torn who to root for when the Sox played Milwaukee and when the cubs played Detroit (but not so much due to my hatred of the cubs)! Otherwise, I always root for just two teams, the White Sox and whoever plays the cubs!

A lot of idiots here. this series is the best of the year.

Interleague is a lame publicity stunt that has run it's course. It was put into place to try to persuade some of the faux fans and for the crappy franchises that were desprate for a few good gates.
And should fans really be excited over two bad teams playing each other just because their parks are close to each other? Apparently not. |
||||
|
Nice job being a shchill for the respective marketing departments Morrisey.
The reason its not gaining much excitement is because fans finally realized playing a team, not in your league in the middle of June really is pointless. Add two mediocre teams and I would much prefer watching Cubs Cards, Cubs Brewers, Or Sox v. Pirahhnahs. |

|
correction, the cubs are riding a four-game losing streak going into today's game
|
||||
|
Maybe fans need to fight off mass lethargy when it comes to MLB in general and its endless laundry list of afflictions.
|
||||
If this is the best series of the year, then that means both teams are having terrible years. The best series of the year should be an early Sept series against a division opponent on the brink of making the playoffs. |

Cubs have been so lifeless this season, I might actually root for the Sox...no, I couldn't ever get that desperate!

I for one, will be happy when they put an end to this interleague stupidity that unbalances the schedules and is simply candy for the non baseball fans.
