Mauer maybe, but Cuddyer no way. He would be Alexi Casilla on the Yankees.

The mid-market realities of the Twins are a little depressing at times, but we out perform our peers. Only the really big spenders are in the AL play-offs along with our home town boys. Here's hoping the Twins can play better in the series vs. the Yankees and sign Mauer against all odds.

Seriously how pathetic are Yankee fans so pathetic they actually sign up and comment in their arrogant ways as if they actually accomplished something. They are no better then any other fan and yet they still think otherwise. Yankees fan for the most part are nothing but arrogant jerks and they prove it with ever message they leave.

That is a great line for the nyy, I really do hate the devil and the devil's children who all work for the nyy. Come on Twins, do it for the other 99% of the USA who wants you to upset the evil empire and the free spending idiots who run the yankees.

The league needs to impose a REAL salary cap and REAL fines. Like, say...no post-season participation if you go over. Don't blame the Yankees (who I loathe) and put the blame on the league for allowing them to do what they do.

Baseball is doomed. Occasionally you get a feel good story like the Twins, but that is usually short lived and it is back to the boredom of seeing the same teams in the playoffs year after year after year. I'm sure it is great if you are a fan of one of those big market teams, but it becomes quite tedious for the rest.

First of all, people are not that interested in reading bitterness anymore, sir. Anyway, it is not Steinbrenner's fault that he is a shrewd businessman that takes advantage of being in one of the largest markets in the country. You act as if it is the "Evil" Yankees fault for being in a large market. Your beloved and saintly Twins organization would do the same if they could, and frankly, I wouldn't blame them. Also, ignoring for a moment the exact amount that the Yankees invest in their payroll (which I will agree is astronomical and somewhat... strike that... extremely ridiculous considering these guys are just playing a game, but once again, consider their market), I would be interested in seeing if the Twins organization invests as high of a *percentage* of their income back into the team as the Yankees do... I doubt it. Instead of writing frustrated little articles, perhaps you should become more active in baseball politics. Perhaps you could instead work at convincing people to write to their representatives demanding they establish a salary cap within the MLB. I, for one, despite being a huge fan of an organization that depends on enormous salaries, would commend you. Oh, and thanks for completely failing to mention the fact that the do Yankees have a few people on their team that some folks my or may not have heard of that have all come up through the Yankee farm system. I guess you might not be familiar with Andy Petite, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, or perhaps even Derek Jeter? Take an anger management class or something, you're giving a great and classy organization like the Minnesota Twins a bad name.

Maybe if Pohlad actually spent money instead of doing his best Monty Burns impersonation for the past few decades the Twins would be in a better position to sign...well....somebody. This boo-hoo-hoo garbage ignores the fact that the Yankees actually return the vast amounts of money they make back into their team - unlike the Pohlads, who could open the pursestrings on their own fortune much like George did in the mid 1970s. NY don't make the rules - they are just trying to win like everybody else. This article is the biggest collect of homerish misinformation i have ever read. I mean, do some real research you hack

The Steinbrenner's put every dollar they have into the Yankees, don't be jealous. They want a winning product, don't hate them because they have more money than the Twinkies. Good idea to get out of that Football Stadium. I mean really it is pathetic that you have been playing in that silly Dome for so long. Your Field in Fort Myers is nicer than the HHH Metrodump. Maybe this small time writer who wrote this column will make it to the big time some day.....but would he move to a bigger market? No he would never want to make more money, he would just be happy to mediocre just like the Twins.

Would you turn down the opportunity to get the players that you need to earn your team a championship? Absolutely not. Sometimes they're homegrown; sometimes they're imported. Yes, the Yankees import more than some other teams, but why is that a bad thing? These players play the game for a living. It is how they support themselves and their families. Are the amounts they make more than they need? Absolutely. Do you make only what you need, nothing more? Absolutely not. Why do they make more? Because everybody wants to see them do what they do because nobody else can do it. If you don't want them to get millions of dollars, there are lots of ways for you to do something about it. Don't pay for the tickets, don't watch the games on tv or listen to them on the radio, don't support their advertisers, don't buy the merchandise, and the list goes on. It's fans like you and me that build the clubs' bank accounts. I support my team and I expect them to do their best every year. If that means hunting for the best talent in the league and bringing it to my team instead of raising it through the farm system, then I'm all for it. And where is that $161 million coming from to pay CC? Out of my pocket because I'm a fan and I want my team to win.

Afflac Fun Fact!(qwack qwack): The Twins had nearly $60 million more in operating income than the Yankees in 2008. The Yankees took a hit financially, it didn't work out last year, but at least they were willing to spend on the team than line their own pockets. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/33/biz_baseb...

The Yankees won't go after Mauer because they have Jorge and they have Cervelli coming up. They are actually set at nearly every position with a lot of talented young players coming up. So don't worry about Mauer I'm sure the Red Sox will sign him. In a side note why don't you blame the players who choose to sign with big clubs. Isn't their greed condemable. Where is loyalty to teams and loyalty to the fans?
