I dont get the point of the trade
They are both similar players Francoeur strikes out alot and Church is a gap to gap hitter and they are both great defensive players You traded a 30 yr old for 25 yr old which is basically what it comes down to. Lefty bat for a righty |

Wait a minute.... Francoeur isn't hispanic

What a dumb trade! This adds nothing to the Mets lineup. It's a swap of 1 right hand hitting, solid defensive outfielder who is struggling at the plate for 1 left hand hitting, solid defensive outfielder who also has struggled at the plate. If they had added Francouer & kept Church that might have been something. Minaya needed to add to the major league roster without taking players off of it. A lineup of Francouer in lf, Beltran in cf, Church in rf, Wright at 3b, Reyes at ss, Castillo at 2b & Delgado at 1b would have looked pretty good if & when those injured players come back.

Surprised Omar traded for an American!

I don't quite understand this one.
They don't get an extra bat - what they needed. And Church was an excellent outfielder (not that Francouer is not.) But where is the upside, especially now when the mets need bats? As someone said earlier - if they added Francouer and kept Church - made a lot more sense. |

You know, that was my first thought too. |

i am surprised and sorry to see ryan church go. and hopefully jeff francoeur will help the team. HOWEVER, i am not happy with jerry manuel's too-laid-back attitude, as if he has nothing to do with what the mets accomplish - or not accomplish. and i am not happy with omar minaya's inaction (and this far into the season) at filling the holes left by three big players. that should have been looked at ages ago. one more thing: i have been wondering about the training staff - how do injuries like the ones sustained by three important players happen? is there not a stringent training policy - meaning preventive treatment? i would think that team's trainers should be working more diligently and be careful NOT to let these guys get so badly hurt that they're out for so long. i know sometimes one cannot avoid it, but i think that angle should be taken into consideration. these players are valuable commodities that should be handled with great care!

1 There are just too many injuries, and it doesn't really matter who they brought in, even if they could, because no one or two players is going to turn this around. Stop f-u-CK_ing whining already and su-ck it up . You can't have it all, every year. This is what happens these days. God forbid a team which has had a pretty competitive team the last 3 or 4 years, actually suufer injuries to core players and suffer a bad one. It happens. The window for winning it all only stays open for so long and then it closes and you have to re-stock, re-tool, whatever you want to call it. But right now there is no one player that is going to make up for the losses of Delgado, Beltran, and Reyes. I mean give me a break. Take Howard, Rollins, and Victorino off the Phillies for a long stretch and see how long they stay competitive. It is what it is. It's a bad season, with 3/4 of our core on the DL. How is that Omar's fault? How is it Omar's fault they blew two september leads? And please someone tell me what is this blockbuster trade you have figured out, as the better GM that you are, that Omar isn't making which would make the Mets so much better. Shut up, stop whining, and su-ck it up. That's sports. Oh by the way, I like the trade. The mets get younger and better defensively at the position which helps for next year, which if you haven't realized yet, is what this trade is for. |

Do the Mets need a right-handed bat that badly? All I know is the Wilpons have to make those bond payments for Citi Field and with attendance slowly falling, I can only believe they're doing some heavy praying for Reyes and Delgado to return injury free after the All-Star game so as the attendance doesn't fall further...
Know what I'm sayin'?... |

The Mets have the worst farm team in baseball. This cripples them when it comes to making any kind of deal for a major league player. Mets don't have anything of interest to land a Holliday or difference maker. Every other major league teams farm system trumps the Mets, so they're screwed.

Fire Jerry and hire Buck Showalter.
Maybe that can save Minya. |
