WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WILPONS???! OMAR JUST SCREWED UP ANOTHER TRADE. OMAR AND MANUEL JUST GAVE UP THE BEST ARM IN BASEBALL FOR A .250 HITTER. OMAR SAYS THIS IS FOR THE FUTURE, THEN THE FUTURE IS PRETTY DISMAL, WHEN YOU CAN GIVE UP A PLAYER LIKE CHURCH FOR A .250 HITTER. OMAR AND MANUEL MUST GO AND IF THE WILPONS DONT WAKE UP, PLEASE SELL THIS TEAM TO BASEBALL PEOPLE. THIS WAS THE DUMBEST TRADE IN BASEBALL THIS YEAR.
Francour's arm is even better than Church's and he has a bigger possible upside. Not a bad trade

<quoted text>. You make Church sound like he's Roberto Clemente, he was hitting .150 with risp, hitting about the same against left handers, and had a whopping 2 hrs with 22 rbi's. Francouer has had 2 100 rbi seasons with 29 hrs and he is 25 yrs old. also a great arm and gold glover
all good points kat. there was nothing to lose here.

One dissapointing player for another. I guess it can't hurt, but don't get your hopes up. And Francoeur's Gold Glove was mostly for his throwing arm, not his glove.

I remember Francouer as guy who rarely walks which translates to a low OBP. Also he strikes out alot, swinging at alot of bad pitches. Oh yeah, who else strikes out alot swinging at alot of bad pitches? That's right, David Wright! Stick Francouer in the 6th slot behind Wright and we can have back to back 200 strikeout players. Sound like the recipe for success to me.

Hey lou you must be tickled pink!

This is a simple trade of two mediocre outfielders with the difference being Francoeur bats from the right side. The proverbial, maybe a change of scenery will help, gives a team hope. But in reality, a player is who he is regardless of scenery.
Just examine the Fernando Tatis lesson. He was out of baseball for 2 years. Why? Because he wasn't a viable major league player anymore. His play for a few months last season gave Minaya and Met fans the impression that they stole soemthing from the rest of the league. Turns out the rest of the league was right. The guy was out of baseball because he can't play the game anymore.
How about Santos? There is a reason he was in the minors for almost 10 years. He isn't that good.
The Mets have too many injuries and just not enough quality players on the team to overcome such injuries.
You keep asking where are the Wilpons? They own the team. They pay Minaya to run the team for them. They gave him a contract extension. They are not going to fire him now.
There is nothing the Wilpons can do, other than write off this season to injuries, hope that they recover some of the Madoff money they lost, and hope Minaya can retool the team this winter.
Other than that, just watch the games and shrug.

Great theory, except that Francoeur is also white. And I'd definitely take that Dominican national team over the Mets.

Let me tell you, I would refuse a flight to LGA as well. Might as well rename that airport Delayed International Airport.

But seriously, this trade is vintage Steve Phillips. It makes no sense. Who is going to play centerfield now? Angel Pagan sucks.

This trade was made by Manuel, and his dislike for Church. I heard a sports writer on the radio discussing the trade, and the way the mets handled church last year. He said:

"This was like going out and buying an expensive vase, and letting your 5 year olds play catch with it. Then, when it's broken, you say "well this isn't any good to me now".

The trade is pretty close to being an even trade. Church geets on bae more often, similar defense. It appears neither of these players were going to flourish undeer their current managers, so maybe they will both play better for their current teams.

This trade makes NO sense. The Mets want defense and offense. Church is the more rounded player. Francouer may have a better arm but not by a lot. But he is a nightmare at the plate. Who cares if he is 5 years younger if he can't play. And so what if he is a right handed hitter. This is just DUMB. And if this was done as a message to the team, I think the message is that if you play hard and get injured for this organization, you will get benched and possibly traded. Great message.

The Church trade is the first of many to come. The Mets badly handled his concussions last year, and their medical staff and GM has lost the confidence of the players. That's why so many Mets are on the DL and are very slow at coming back. Omar will make some moves to no avail. The Mets are done in 2009. Omar will be fired by seasons end.

Yeah maybe Church was hitting .280 with 2HR, 22RBI's, 26Runs, and 6SB's but that's better than four-fifths of the current Met's starters!
While Francouer is hitting .250 with 5HR, 35RBI's, 32Runs, and 5SB's.
. 30 pts lower avg but 13 more RBI'S, has Church ever hit 29 hrs with 100 RBI's Case closed!!!!!!!!!

13 more RBI's midseason means jack $hit! Look at who the Met's have on the field. Look how many times they left runners on base or in scoring position. Nobody on the team is clutch hitting. That's why we are getting shut out and under .500!

Church would go on a hitting streak and Manuel would sit him because he platoon's his players.

The stats at the end of the season will tell the tale. Betcha Church has a break-out second half with the Braves!!!!!

And if there were ever any baserunners on when Church came to bat, maybe he'd have more rbi's
