Most of the burden of resigning Mauer rests with the team. They must make him an offer that is at least similar to what other clubs would offer. That being said, Joe has some responsibility. If he really wants to win he needs to leave a little cash for the team to sign enough other players to complement him and produce a winner. So, if he really wants to play here on a winning team that will happen, if not a trade will have to be made. My preference is that Mauer will anchor a championship team in Minnesota.
