Does anyone else remember the days when you could hop in the back of a uncovered pick-up and drag your kids wherever? I truely think this guy just wanted to amuse his grandkids....

No, it is not only in WV. You dont get out much do you? West Virginia drivers are no worse then anywhere else. Here in WV. we watch out for tags from PA. and NY. Run you over in a heart beat. It really is everywhere. People do not care anymore.
Grandpop was just having a little fun. Trying to make memories without thinking. Glad the little ones are safe.

many Beckley area residents will scare the ---- out of you in a parking lot. I work at a grocery store and i have had several near misses while my co-workers have got hit.

apparently, you dont' get out nether. an average lawnmower can not get anywhere near as fast as a car. if a car was flying down the road he had no chance of getting out of the way. people tend to drive down the center of street roads here, I have nearly got hit or run off the road while driving on the correct side. I drive by king tut everyday and its a busy road where people run the yellow light until after it turns red !

So I ask, do you drive in the Beckley area?

Road rage and cell phones are king here. they dont drive laid back like they do in rural areas.

Folks, I have not heard of this happening anywhere else and making national news on the web. Remember, this website is viewable worldwide.

I get out all the time. I live in Berkeley Co. I see road rage all the time on 81,51,95 & 70 and if you are lucky, you get to be involved in the Inwood area "hell intersection".

I never said "papa" was right. I would never have done it. It does not strike you funny that this simple little story made the "big news"? You should see the simpletons everywhere else. I have seen people, in Maryland yet, take their little ones on the back of a ATM WITHOUT a helmet on a BUSY highway. There are red light runners everywhere you go, no matter what state and cell phone useres while driving is not just in Beckley.

I guess you do not really read the news in the OS or follow the forums that much? You would then see how much of the news and forums are on the stupid things people do and it's not about WV either.

This is something my dad would have done, but not with a boat. He'd have a trailer fixed just for the kids. I don't think he would have took them out on a buys highway, though.
This was cute. Can't you just see the little kids telling mom and dad that "pawpaw" got in trouble.

Heres how Beckley people drive. I was driving down Canterbury Drive toward Rural Acres drive on my far right hand side of the road and someone coming from Rural Acres was on their far left! If they did nogh right themselve, we would have hit head on.

I remember when wearing a seat belt and using a child seat wasn't an issue. When my son was a toddler he would stand up in the front seat or sit in his daddy's lap pretending to drive. Dangerous? Hell yes!
Now, everything seems to be against the law. I agree that safety should always be a priority especially when it comes to children and pets but some laws are just getting out of hand.

apparently you have never seen the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. It's very thin and most of the pages are full of ads. It certainly isn't worth .50 cents. I guess there isn't much news to report here.

I have seen this man drive around the neighborhood on that mower for a very long time. I cant say that I have seen him with anything other then himself before though. The boat was not a smart idea, but when he is alone he isnt hurting anyone. Although getting behind him on N. Vance drive is VERY annoying because there is almost always traffic coming on the other side and going around him isnt always an option. lol.
