Attention must be paid to the memory of chicken liver omelettes served on hung-over sunday mornings at the Mt. Vernon.

I haven't been back to B'more in a year but have they re-paved that section of Charles Street in front of the old Gampy's yet? IT WAS A DISGRACE. I had to get my car re-aligned after driving on that stretch!

That entire portion of Charles Street is being rebuilt right now. New granite curbs, new paving, new sidewalks, and new lighting.

do you think the robbery/murder at gampy's years ago had anything to do with it's downfall?

Gampy's (and the Mt. V) were favorite hang-outs for the post-show theater crowd. Lot's of memories (for those sober enough to remember...)

No, skeelo...it was really more a matter of a well-run, fun, and creative place that was permitted to slide after a management change. Gampy's defied being flash-in-the-pan by being really good, until it got very, very bad. The last couple of years, it was generally known in the neighborhood as "Crampy's".

But oh, the memories. There will never be another Monte Cristo like theirs, and if I could have the Gampy's pumpkin soup just one more time...

I used to work there and was wondering what happened, From a F&B standpoint the owner at the time was as smart as they come. Good old Donald and his Father "BOSS" I loved that place. That was a great time in my life working there with Chip, Deborah, Dave, Brooke, Lou, lady Dianne, Cathy, Milissa and many others! We used to get done around 4:00 am then head out to party! Sad to read that after the management change it went down hill. I will always remember the 600 cover nights, for a small place, it cranked!

Wow..Gampy's..Living on St. Paul street through the 80's/90's my second home was Gampy's great food, great patrons ,loud music and pink blue neon on the ceilings-Chip (works now in rehobeoth Beach at a restaurant)or Deborah always getting me and my friends a seat pulling us through the line that was out the front door on a saturday night-The butter/pretzelsticks soaked up the vodka while I waited for the Chicken Parmesean or Monte Cristo, ceasar salad or turkey pasta dish to sober me up. What a great menu -Thanks everyone for posting these great memories..Watch out-Hot Oil -Hot Oil LOL...

Wow, looking at the comments and the latest about 2009 don't know if anyone still looks at this or not. I used to go there in the mid 80's and really impressed some people by the class and comfort put out by the employees. At that time they came around with a cutting board and Fillet Mignon, Boneless Ribeye, NY cut and probably some more. You told how big and they cut it to that size and it was 1 -2 bucks an ounce. Had some "special coffee" that came in tall mugs that I still have a few of. Was a great place and sorry it's gone. If any of you read this and have ever been up 83 to Harrisburg and are familiar with the SPOT. Well, it's gone too. Best dog's and Cheese Steaks on the East Coast to me... Well, that's all for now... Semper Six and thanks to all you vets for your service.

Gampy's...used to live at 1001 St. Paul, worked at The Leather Underground on Read St., danced at The Club Atlantis, worked at The Peabody Court Hotel as well as The Harbor Court Hotel. Sat on the stoop with Bill and Sancy...if you walked on Eager St to work then you probably stopped and talked to Bill or at least waved hello. Great days and wonderful times...and there was Gampy's for either Sunday Brunch....no one has mentioned the Illegal Stuffed French Toast...Gosh, that was good, and, after a night of dancing at The Hippo...the already mentioned Monte Cristo sandwich would always top off a great time....the best Monte Cristo ever. Thanks Mike for giving me the chance to live in Mt. Vernon. Sweet memories.
