Black and mad

I'm mad. Let me qualify that - I'm black and mad. The mad I'm talking about I inherited from generations of black people before me. Full Story

As far as opportunities with university goes.. Well we have a good model in my house. I encourage and empower my children to do the best they can with their education. This leads to scholarships. Sure education is expensive but if your child is motivated and understands the importance those costs can be greatly reduced. If you are a thug in HS or just dont care then sure you either wont go or it will be out of your reach. Many states and cities also have programs that benefit the children living near them.
I am working class. I work 50 hours a week in the IT support field. I have 3 children at home and I provide our necessities as well as limited luxuries. Based upon the advice I have heard from multiple financial planners I will not be going into debt for the sake of my children's education. They will need to work or incur their own debt. Luckily for us Purdue has a satellite campus nearby that offers wonderful opportunities.
Unfortunately, educational success is directly linked to the quality of the local schools available. You have the odd child who may be naturally gifted, if they can avoid the pitfalls of High School life then they may go one to achieve great things and get a scholarship.

But the reality is that bad schools create bad students which creates ill adjusted adults. This then leads to what Merton called 'anomie'.

The process by which a child/adult feels they can't achieve success through accepted channels (school, hard work, sport, scholarship) and so endeavour to achieve success through unacceptable means (drug, robbery, fraud).

This is called counter-culture and is a better way to describe what you called sub-culture.

Counter culture has created more Black millionaires in America than the accepted channels (barring sports). Just look at the HipHop movement. A bunch of thugs touting weapons and glorifying crime have made millions. And in turn they can offer a chance to other young Black males that the system has not been able to.

Black counter culture in the USA has even been exported to Europe and all around the world. You may see it as destructive - but it is something that marginalised/disenfranchised black youths in America have done by and for themselves. And now even white working class disenfranchised youths can reap the benefits (just look at Eminem).

Sorry for the long post - but it isn't as easy as 'they're all lazy'.

Something needs to be done to redress the balance between the haves and have-nots. But that isn't in the Capitalist model's best interest

By the way - I was also born into a working class family in a working class area.

My parents finally saves enough money to move into the suburbs and I was lucky enough to move from a state school to a Grammar School

My life changed - so i speak from experience.

Had i not had that opportunity, I too would've become part of the counter cutlure

Becaue it is completely unacceptable to be white and angry. And when I read things like this - that is what I get (and white is what I am).
The double-standards are unbelievable and (in a world where equality is the goal - so they so) UNACCEPTABLE!!!
I'm sick and tired and reading articles about how I just don't understand. Well you know what - neither do you! You weren'ta slave and your parents weren't slaves.
The Jews have risen above the Holocaust. The Japanese have risen above Hiroshima. I, as a Catholic, have risen about the Romans feeding my anscestors to the lions. But for some reason, African Americans can't seem to rise above ANYTHING!!!
You vilify people like Bill Cosby; call him an Uncle Tom and call him a sellout - all because he tells the truth. And you glorify people like Rev. Wright - because he 'tells if like you wish it was'.
And yes, Obama summed it up.'It cannot be washed away." But you know what, it can be "moved beyond". But it has to start in the black community.
I live in a small town in Kentucky. Black folk live in my subdivision. A black man coaches our county basketball team. The high school has a black male assistant principal. We have black teachers. Most black students are motivated and many go to college. We are a tourist community and I see many mixed race families. Our community is far from perfect, but we do not have big city problems.

I type this to put across this point. Opportunities are available for black people that their grand fathers never dreamed of. But black folk have to be prepared both academically and have the ambition in order to take advantage of these opportunities. Teens who learn more from rap than they learn from teachers are never going to get beyond a future of early death or jail.

The civil rights movement changed America for the better. A segment of the black community is far better off now that they were before the movement. Another segment is far worse. Fatherless children, gangs, the poison of rap, generations of well fare dependence, rotting in housing developments, the prison culture...this segment has degenerated.

Come on Jackson, Sharpton, media, politicians and black preachers talk about the real racism in this country. The selling out of inner city black youth. Politicians stop blocking vouchers. Black men father the children that you begat, kids began to realize that life will take you only as far as you have educated yourself.

Young black males will die on Chicago streets this week end. Does no body care?

Bull puckey. You're coming from a socialist mind-set, so you simply don't get it. Americans have traditionally been independent (that's why we revolted against your king) and self-reliant. It is only in the past few generations, since the 1960's and the beginning of the downslide into socialist policies, that SOME Americans, not by any means all or even the majority, have decided that the nanny state should provide for them. In past generations, if your parents weren't responsible enough or successful enough to provide for college, you either found a way to make a living that did not require a college degree, or you worked your own way through college. Imagine that.........providing for yourself instead of asking the taxpayers to provide for you!!!!!! As for the schools, again, BULL PUCKEY! If parents teach the value of education, are involved in their kids' education, and instill the value of education in their children, they will succeed. If, like so many of the ghetto dwellers, the parents are not married, the father is absent and the mother does not make her kids and their education a priority.........more ghetto dwellers result. And here's a REALLY revolutionary thought. If you can't afford to feed, clothe, house and educate children, DON'T HAVE THEM. Keep your pants on and you won't find yourself stuck with kids you can't afford. It is absolutely still possible for ANYONE to succeed in America. It will never be possible to do so without expending your own blood, sweat and tears, and it never SHOULD be possible to succeed without doing so.
I'm not speaking from a socialist mindset but a sociological one.

If it were as easy as 'everyone go get a job' then we wouldn't be in this situation. But there is unemployment because your government didn't protect industry and manufacturing. Why? because the US ruling class are only interested in profit and not nationalist interests. As can be seen by the disastrous banking crisis that formed in the states.

You need to move with the times. The world has changed,

So where are these people supposed to work? By your reasoning, it is then comendable that a youth who can't find work should sell drugs. After all 'by any means possible' is your mantra right?

Feaky1Freaky should be commended for working 50 hours a week. But it isn't always possible.

Stop blaming the product of social policy and instead address the inadequacies of your social policy

I would disagree. The company I work for operates out of multiple cities. All are major metropolises. Operations in all are understaffed. You know why?
1) The general applicant is ignorant (not like rude ignorant but uneducated ignorant).
2) These jobs would be primarily for the 20 something young adult. That group of the population does NOT want to work.
3) Why work for minimum wage when the gubment is paying you more than minimum wage to sit on your ass.

So we (the big corporate monster) should pay exorbitant wages to appease the "Don't give a damn" employee?

I went from HS straight to the Army. Upon leaving the Army I took a minimum wage job (part-time) while I went to college. My wife took a job to supplement my crap wages. The job SUCKED! I didn't give up I busted my balls and succeeded in the work place, took a couple promotions and completed my 4 year degree.

The problem today is not with those over (let's say) 30. It is the 20 somethings and younger. They are raised in an entitlement state. The Me generation I believe they call it. They want instant gratification with the smallest of effort.

Guess the F$%K what... if you want it you HAVE to work for it.

Quit putting your hand out. Good example... I work in Chicago and take daily lunch walks... I won't give a cent to the bum sitting on his ass holding up a cup. However, if I pass a destitute soul that is providing some entertainment even if it is just humming loudly I will give them something.

You do nothing you get nothing.... Get out there and work for waht you want!

I am working like the generations before me who paid the taxes that paid the bills of those who were too busy being mad to work. Gee - small world isn't it? TOS - you need to stop acting as if any political system that differs from yours is somehow destructive and at odds with the US.

Other political systems do exist you know, and many of them existed before the United States was even born.

What you're saying is that a National Health Service is bad, that free healthcare for the masses is destructive. That if my child falls seriously ill but i can't afford health insurance, then he/she should just be allowed to die? Come on!

Britain has actually adopted a semi US-style approach to university education. We don't pay full fees but pay up to 10,000 a year. Do you know what the result is? Lower volumes of applications for University. Do you know what that means for the future? It means that a University Education has once again become class based where only those who can afford to will get a degree.

It means that future genarations are more likely to end up on social welfare because they no longer have the opportunity to escapte their class based fate.

A free education levels the playing field - it means every child has the same opportunity regardless of how wealthy, broke, priveleged or lazy their parents are.

A child's future should not be dependent on their parents willingness to work. Thats how people get caught in the perpetual cycle of deprivation that i spoke about before.

And Stop this socialism bashing - Firstly - Socialism and Marxism/Communism are no the same thing. Secondly, the US Declaration of Independence is one of the most beatifully socialist documents I've ever read. Inalienable rights, right to revolution, equality, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

You should read it some time.

I'm not being argumnetative here, I'm just saying that you shouldn't ridicule other political systems. That is what will eventually cause America's demise as the paragon of world Freedom. Take it from someone whose own empire suffered a similar fate.

blacks should be mad and embarrassed to be black considering how blacks treat other blacks.

consider that blacks who keep voting for dumb democrats year after year are ignored by the very people they elect to represent them in local and federal government.

so blacks for democrats for 60 years straight and see the standard of living in the hood going down and getting worse every year.

They see more and more black women becoming slaves to welfare with no hope of any real life just more misery in the hood.

Blacks should march on city hall demand an end to slavery of welfare close down the welfare system and Demand jobs in city hall and state government.

with jobs and a real future blacks could afford to move out of the crime infested hood and get a real life someplace.

someplace with better shopping , better schools, safer neighborhoods with no drug dealers and gun toting black street gang moron.

Then blacks should march and demand to know how or why thousands of blacks have been shot, killed and or wounded by other blacks in the hood yet the lame inept police department can't find the time to investigate these murders and arrest the black morons doing the shooting?????

something up with that>

Then blacks should march on TV stations and news papers demanding to know why all these shootings killings wounding's are not getting coverage in the local state national or intergalactic press??

but blacks really aren't smart enough to be that mad. Been to many years of voting democrat being on welfare and hearing those lame babbling speeches in ebonics by al "notso" Sharpton have dulled the brains of blacks and they are no longer capable of independent thoughts and actions.

hence blacks don't get mad unless they are told what to think by some pretend leader in the hood.

all da real blacks leaders moved out of town years ago or just faded away

The difference between us is that I accept there is more than one system of governance and have bothered to study them.

You don't hear me say that he American Capitalist model of preserving the rich and hoping the poor benefit in some way is wrong. And showing evidence of it through the US instigated financial crash that has had repercussions throughout the world.

It doesn't help anyone to accuse other of Simply being wrong.

in that regard - it is you who is brainwashed. American capitalism is selling the manufacturing industry to the highest global bidder (china in most cases) and you are worried about people not working.

I understand why yoi are proud of your nation. But you're pinning the blame on the wrong people.

Just as the poor have a duty to work and do their bit. The elite have a duty to be ethical and responsible about the way they shape America's future.

The buck doesn't stop with the poor. It starts with the rich.

Congratulations. I'm pretty sure that your son will not be a Trayvon. The black community MUST take responsibility to teach their children that education is important. That being married before you have children is important. That sticking around to raise your kids is important. That teaching them to speak properly is important. That teaching them to respect their elders, other people and themselves is important. That yes people will judge you by your clothes, your hair, your demeanor and your speech. If you strut into a job interview with your pants dragging around your butt, wearing a hoodie, and start speaking ebonics, you're not likely to get the job. That a black woman going to a job interview with 8" nails,a hairdo from hell, and those same ebonics is also not likely to get a job unless she's applying to be a stripper. That beating up a guy and trying to kill him for looking at you is stupid and could cause you to end up dead. That doing and/or selling drugs is for stupid people. In every community there are black leaders who have avoided all the pitfalls that some say are inevitable.Teach your kids to emulate those leaders, not the garbage hanging on your corner,or an idiot like Spike Lee or Jackson/Sharpton.Get over the idea that anyone owes you anything. No one owes you a dang thing. Get out and make a good life for yourself. And if you've failed your kids, failed to teach them these things, and they end up in prison or dead, stop blaming the rest of the world.YOU failed your kids.Vow to do better.Help other kids.Apologize for your failures and the terrible results of your unwillingness to raise your kids right. There is no doubt in my mind that every black kid in America can succeed just as every white, hispanic and asian kid can succeed. You just have to TRY.

The Tawana Brawley rape hoax that he led tells you everything you need to know about Sharpton. He and the other race hustlers are never far away if there is a camera to get in front or a dollar they can stuff in their pocket. America's last surviving jerry curl is beginning to get recognized for the racist he is. No one with any credibility supports this irrelevant elf that stole his hairdo from someone's grandma.
