"... Ron Smith is still the best of the bunch left. Yeah, he leans left, but not so far as to prevent him from speaking up about the mistakes at the top, and I will always remember that he always said that war in Iraq was going to be a disaster...he was right on that score! I miss Master Prell, but I don't see him coming back, unfortunately. The drive from Vienna gets worse every week, and I suspect there is a lot of ill will still between him and the semi big bosses at the once mighty 1090."

--- That comment about Ron Smith was of interest to me. Perhaps it's good news. Here's another point of view.
Years ago -- perhaps in the 80's -- he seemed to me to be a reasonable voice of moderation, informative, and a good listener. Then he seemed to me to take an increasing turn to the right into the zone of "you're more reasonable than I; I'm trying not to hear you, and I've got this button to boot..." His treatment of some callers he disagreed with was unbecoming and shabby.
It struck me that he really didn't like callers who knew more about a subject than did he. That may have been masked for the first 5 years or so I listened to him, but it became progressively more exposed, acute, and more odious to me.
Alan Prell had the wonderful word, "speechify," to characterize the pomposity that crept into some callers voices. I simply stopped listening to Ron Smith because of his (perceived) pomposity. I had the distinct impression that there must have been a triptych mirror in the sound studio where he periodically checked to see if his profile and demeanor was appropriate to the dated, silly, claptrap he was declaiming. As time went by, he had less and less relevant, interesting and new to say, and as can happen in those cases the person simply becomes more insistent, more urgent, louder, and ruder in their delivery. They take their own pomposity seriously.
As Obama has said, sometimes when he gets too full of himself, his wife plants his feet back on the ground by telling him to take out the trash. Ron Smith may have found someone to tell him to take out the trash.

Re: Chip Franklin

To Whom It May Concern:

Who is this Chip Franklin? I listen to the Coast to Coast evening show, and too often have the misfortune of being woken up in the mornings by his shrill, piercing, treble voice, which forces me to change stations. I dislike Rick Roberts on KFMB, but listening to him is infinitely preferable than remaining tuned to KOGO.

Isn't there an EQ thing you can do to make his voice less annoying? Although that wouldn't do anything about the content.

Chip Franklin stands in the very back of the lengthy line of Obama bashers. The difference between Limbaugh, Hedgecock, Roberts, Savage and Mr. Franklin is that the other radio hosts don't WHINE. Mr. Franklin whines incessantly, repeatedly, and annoyingly, and is constantly spewing his off-the-top-of-his-head (as opposed to well thought-out) opinions. The result is broadcasting drivel.

All broadcasters have healthy egos, and the aforementioned ones have more than healthy ones. But they also have accomplishments that (at least in part) offset these. Other than losing weight, does Mr. Franklin have any broadcasting, humanitarian of public service accomplishments to warrant the prodigious ego he so prominently displays? If so, they pale before his pathetic on-air performance.

Chip Franklin is a terrible interviewer. He talks over people, stammers and stutters. He is not a good listener, which is a prerequisite for being a good interviewer. He doesn't handle call-ins well. And his attempts at humor are pathetically unfunny.

I see (from a Google search) that I am not alone in finding Mr. Franklin unlistenable, Apparently, his former Baltimore audience did. I suppose one of the few smart things Mr. Franklin has done is refrain from his California bashing, now that he lives here.

Surely in this tight economy, it is possible to find people who are actually good at what they do. Chip Franklin simply isn't.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is LaDonna Harvey, who is professional and has a pleasant voice.

It amazed me that CHip was ranting on the red lights issue being used beyond their intended use to include other Oakland...and being considered more broadly in CA. He was so ranting on it, I ALMOST believed him. It appears suspicious someone so at odds with CA is taking a job there. Is he trying to shake up the system out there (LOL...I'll take the odds on NO)...or is he just another hypocrite trying to make a buck?
You decide and call in with your comments.
This guy (Franklin, is now on the west coast (KOGO); The only reason I found this thread I usually listen to R. Limbaugh (when he's not playing golf with Urkle...just kidding); so I was not surprised that your opinions of Chip Franklin was much as I've concluded also. Anyone want to take him back on the East Coast; California has enough difficulty without this Franklin character.

Franklin is shrill and awful; wonder how long the KOGO audience will tolerate him?

Hopw much would it cost to have WBAL rehire Chip? I will pay his airfare. Can't stand his poor imitation of stuttering John.

He's here in San Diego, now; you want him back? please take him. Rush Limbaugh is on this station and were it not for Limbaugh the station would have taken a hit.(lower ratings)....his stupid bits and contests are insulting to people. For morning drive he pisses people off.

To KOGO: Can you please get LaDonna Harvey to do your morning show interviews? Chip Franklin talked over more than half of his 'interview' with Ice T yesterday. I thought interviewers were supposed to ask QUESTIONS and LISTEN, neither of which Chip Franklin appears capable of. He is obviously more interested in himself than in the person being interviewed. Thank you.
We unfortuantely have him

I am glad he is gone another know nothing guy. He was real pain in the ass. They will find the same thing when goes west. He said he was stand up comedian but not a stand out. The only thing funny about him was his face.
He's the ONLY announcer that I turn the station when he comes on; I listen to Rush Limbaugh and he introduces his show in the AM; He's just awful; it's been like this for the two years or so, he's been here.

Yah well KOGO 600AM San Diego just FIRED this smartass too (9-13-2013 Friday the 13th, how appropriate). This abrasive, fowl mouthed, mean spirited, rude A-Hole, BS Artist deserves it and we can only hope that he goes BACK to your stinking liberal city Baltimore.

Right on! We are glad to have him gone. LaDonna Harvey now does the morning show, which is now more news than show. All excellent decisions.
KFMB finally dumped that blowhard bastard Rick Roberts. And we, the people of San Diego, finally dumped our groping pervert mayor, "Headlock" Filner!

Life is good now in America's Finest City.
