Conservatives are conducting a war on food stamps. To be more accurate, they are conducting a war on food stamp recipients—I'm sure they would have no problem with food stamps if they could go to corporations. The GOP wants to pay giant agribusiness firms not to grow food, so I guess it makes sense for them to deny food to the poor. If there was more demand for food, then agribusiness might actually have to engage in agriculture

"Back in our great-grandparents’ day, the peddlers of such miracle cures and get-rich-quick schemes were known as snake-oil salesmen. You don’t see stuff like this much in mainstream culture any more; it hardly seems possible such déclassé effronteries could get anywhere in a society with a high school completion rate of 90 percent. But tenders of a 23-Cent Heart Miracle seem to work just fine on the readers of the magazine where Ann Coulter began her journalistic ascent in the late nineties by pimping the notion that liberals are all gullible rubes. In an alternate universe where Coulter would be capable of rational self-reflection, it would be fascinating to ask her what she thinks about, say, the layout of HumanEvents.com on the day it featured an article headlined “Ideas Will Drive Conservatives’ Revival.” Two inches beneath that bold pronouncement, a box headed “Health News” included the headlines “Reverse Crippling Arthritis in 2 Days,”“Clear Clogged Arteries Safely & Easily—without drugs, without surgery, and without a radical diet,” and “High Blood Pressure Cured in 3 Minutes ... Drop Measurement 60 Points.” It would be interesting, that is, to ask Coulter about the reflex of lying that’s now sutured into the modern conservative movement’s DNA—and to get her candid assessment of why conservative leaders treat their constituents like suckers."

Thomas Jefferson couldn't possibly envision the future and this country 200 years ago but he did warn us about government and abuse of power.
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
His worst nightmare has come true.
It's not Jefferson's dream Obama is chasing. It's Castro's and Chavez's dream.
As President, Thomas Jefferson bought a continent from Napolean I which, of course, was against the U S Constitution that he helped write and ratify. You can say that in theory Jefferson dreamed of a small republic(like Cuba) for America, but in reality Jefferson did every thing in his power to promote the American Empire from 'sea to shining sea'

Obama would welcome a special prosecutor because that would bury the investigation in bureaucracy. Better to continue to hold his feet to the fire through Congressional investigations.

IRS faces class action lawsuit over theft of 60 million medical records
The Internal Revenue Service now facing a class action lawsuit over allegations that it improperly accessed and stole the health records of some 10 million Americans, including medical records of all California state judges.
According to a report by Courthousenews.com , an unnamed HIPAA-covered entity in California is suing the IRS, alleging that some 60 million medical records from 10 million patients were stolen by 15 IRS agents. The personal health information seized on March 11, 2011, included psychological counseling, gynecological counseling, sexual/drug treatment and other medical treatment data.
"This is an action involving the corruption and abuse of power by several Internal Revenue Service agents," wrote Robert E. Barnes, attorney representing the John Doe Company, in the official complaint. "No search warrant authorized the seizure of these records; no subpoena authorized the seizure of these records; none of the 10,000,000 Americans were under any kind of known criminal or civil investigation and their medical records had no relevance whatsoever to the IRS search. IT personnel at the scene, a HIPAA facility warning on the building and the IT portion of the searched premises, and the company executives each warned the IRS agents of these privileged records," the complaint continued.
The Department of Health and Human Services recently stated that the ACA does not grant the IRS open access to Americans' medical records with no cause.

The New York Times reports that today’s testimony reveals that “Obama Administration Officials” did know about the IRS targeting of Conservative groups well before last year’s Presidential Election – but did nothing to let Congress or the public know about until AFTER Barack Obama was re-elected:
NEW YORK TIMES: The Treasury Department’s inspector general told senior Treasury officials in June 2012 he was auditing the Internal Revenue Service’s screening of politically active organizations seeking tax exemptions, disclosing for the first time on Friday that Obama administration officials were aware of the matter during the presidential campaign year.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/18/us/politics...
And so was Darrell Issa aware of the IRS activities . There was nothing wrong with going after tax scofflaws unless you don't like aggressiveness and efficiency in government bureaucracy.
