This is what drives me crazy about how Washington operates. I know it's all politics, but what does flood relief, unemployment benefits and GI tuition aid have to do with the war effort? If each of these things are worth being funded, and they may very well be, then they should be voted on and approved/vetoed accordingly.

But then I'm probably just being naive.

I wonder if the "War Spending" is actually $162 billion or is other funding included along with the war spending in that total?

How much is actually going towards operations in Iraq/Afghanistan?

And - I read elsewhere that the $162 billion are the funds actually for Iraq/Afganistan. When you add up everything else, it's over $200 billion.

Jeff - Huh?

There goes another $162 billion we don't have. We'll hit 3rd world status before we know it. Congress is equally responsible for our spending.

And you think the next President isn't going to waste our tax dollars on Iraq, Afghanistan and who knows what country's next? No one ever keeps their campaign promises; they're all talk and no action.

Bush/Cheney don't care, and McCain's right-hand man thinks we're "whiners".

This administration is more worried about Iraq than Main Street, USA.

Hooray! Increasing supply will put downward pressure on price. The problem is only going to get worse. We should have done this a long time ago. The obstructionist liberals including Obama are going to fight this but it is time for the citizens to stand up against them. The high prices are hurting the working and middle classes. They do not seem to care.

The CEO of BP speaking at the national governor's association this weekend explained why it takes about 10-12 years to bring any new off-shore production to market.

The CEO of Exxon Mobile testified before congress that the reason $140/bbl oil is not increasing offshore drilling is that every rig and deep drilling ship is already employed (his words!).

Releasing more deep shelf acreage for drilling won't effect prices in the short term, and there's not enough recoverable oil on our outer continental shelf to be a a solution in the longterm - total recoverable reserves of only 1500 day (<3 year) supply at current rates of consumption.

The greatest downward pressure on prices should have come from Americans driving 11 billion fewer miles in March of 2008 compared to 2007. A conservative estimate with every car getting 30 mpg, makes that equivalent to 400 million fewer gallons of gas per month consumed. Where is the downward pressure on prices?

This "market" is not explained by current supply and demand - much less supplies that may start to hit the market in 2018.

I agree whole heartedly.

You think maybe the oil producing nations and the oil companies are seeing the trend of less miles driven which equals less fuel being bought, so they jack up the price per barrel to make the same margins while producing less??? hmmm ..........

For the lack of a better description, the MORON BUSH has struck another blow for the Oil Companies benefit. There is no lack of Oil, President BUSH! Do you not understand, the price of oil is dictated by Wall Street. It has nothing to do with supply and demand. You must have drank, and snorted your way through not only college, but High School as well. Your friends, in the Oil Business with you, are preparing your table now. You need to stop interferring with things you know nothing about.

Libra

Get organized because that's the best way to be productive today. You're eager to be as efficient and practical as possible, but you won't get very far if you don't know what to do first. So draw up a list of priorities and start with the most urgent. Ideally, you should be left to your own devices while you do all this because that will aid your concentration and self-confidence.
