Teaching young offenders

These so-called "pupils" are most likely criminals-in-training or criminal apprentices and not worthy of spending precious time and resources on in the first place.
Let them resume their "educational endeavors" after their release from this center instead. Make the time spent there unpleasant enough to cause them to seek to change their behavior. NOT just another form of the Section 8 Housing they are probably accustomed to already. |

why should it be plesant for them there. make it so they will not want to come back. To many kids go there intentionally to get away from there family.

These are not "young offenders" they are criminals. they should be treated like criminals. Send them to a strict military style boot camp type school. Here they need to learn discipline, manners, and how to become a productive member of society.

Let me state simply what the problem is with most of these children: nothing to do afterschool, so they get in trouble.
If we had places where children could go afterschool, rather than stay as prisoners in their own homes out of their parents fear of different people (most pedosexuals), to play..... most of these children and teenagers would not be getting in trouble. Raise the minimum wage so that their families can AFFORD to be at home with them and not have to work 3-5 jobs a week, and you would solve most of the problems as well. |

" This is the most absurd bunch of trash I have ever heard of. There is nothing for these poor little children to do, so they get in trouble. There are enough libraries, parks, and youth centers in Baltimore for EVERY child to have a place to go. But you know what...mommy and daddy are too busy to raise their children so they run the streets. Parents are to blame for their 15 year old son bashing men on the head with a baseball bat and killing him. Parents are to blame for their 16 year old son selling drugs to help mommy and daddy pay the rent. Ignorance and filth is breeding more of the same and I am tired of paying to house, feed, and incarcerate this trash. I work hard every day, raise my child, and pay my rent. Yes it is hard, and no, I do not have new clothes or fancy cars, but my daughter goes to parks WITH me. What a concept. |

The state should never put a teacher in that situation! There are enough free buildings in this state to free up
space for regular class rooms and enough guards to do protective service. Keep the worst ones in and the others to a controlled space. I'm sure the state is providing good identification of the youths problems and addressing the issue. |

I just cannot for the life of me understand how the heck these kids got so much power. It is just amazing how many article there are concerning children running the show. I say bring corporal punishment back and swat them on the a** with a nice wooden paddle that has holes drilled in it for extra sting.

Out of the first seven comments, we have one genius suggesting that the way to keep children from becoming adult criminals is to make sure that they remain uneducated, and another genius suggesting that the way to solve violence and aggression is through beatings. But my favorite is the halfwit who asserts, without even the faintest trace of facts, logic, or common sense to back him up, that "to [sic] many kids go there intentionally to get away from there [sic] family." The writer managed to insert two grammatical errors into the same sentence, as if underscore his abject ignorance. Good job!
Point us to the study, Martin, that shows how many children in the custody of DJS placed themselves there intentionally to get away from their families. Or are you just talking out of your ass? |

Very good suggestion! |

Hey Rocket 88. If your type of policies work so good then why has the problem steadily worsened in direct relation to the lack of discipline and control? It seems to me that the more laws that have been passed to protect the kids, the more the kids fail. I suppose you think it is getting better?

I think most of these kids are just crying out for help. We must reach out with caring and compassion to these troubled youths. I know some of them try to appear tough but in reality they are just children who have been pushed aside. For the ones who really are angry maybe we could talk to them and point out the mistakes that they are making. I'm not suggesting coddling these kids. A good stern talking too might be a good starting point. Then they can go home to their families and friends IF they promise to be good.

Hey Tom. What are "my policies"? I did not put forth any "policies" in my posting. I merely pointed out that the cure for violence and ignorance is rarely more violence and ignorance, contrary to what many other posters here seem to believe.
