We'll see you at the 39-year anniversary in October. Orioles - Mets World Series. This time, the birdies will win.

The firing was overdue, the Mets had become a poorly conceived circus act. I doubt the move makes a difference but it will be interesting to see if they are sellers next month.

Omar Minaya has also been responsible for the Mets' struggles. I look at the roster and see at least three overpaid underachievers (Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Damion Easley), an Orioles reject (Fernando Tatis) and Mr. Grumpypants himself Moises Alou. As for the interim manager "Father Jerry," when he was with the White Sox, he went about his business as though he was some sort of religious mystic. He won't be the solution either.

Willie was far from a good manager but firing him the way they did was a classless act. Though I am a Mets fan, this outfit never had any class. At least the Yankees of past times had that class but not anymore.

Get rid of Omar the disaster general manager.

Maybe the Mets oughta do what the Orioles started and that is rebuild. But being in New York, they expect to win every year. The payroll is too high and they have a lot of injuries too. I can't see how they figure it is a racial deal. Big deal Willie Randolph is black, so what. Omar Minaya is spanish, so what. So how can they say it is racial. Willie was a good player for the Yankees but not a good fit as manager on a star studded team. He will rebound and will manage another team before long. Maybe Seattle might consider him since the GM was let go. Whoever is the next GM might consider him as manager. We'll wait and see how it all plays out.

Terry Crowley must have something on the owner. The Orioles have been one of the worst hitting teams for quite a while now. Obviously, the talent on the team is partly to blame, but they strike out way too much, they can't bunt, and they don't know how to move runners up. We just don't make "productive" outs. What in the world has Crowley done all these years?

Why are you discussing race and ethnicity? You must be obsessed with such issues. How sad.

On the occasion of the firing of Willie Randolph, Barack Obama has issued a statement. Please remove your hat and read the following statement silently to yourself:

The recent dismissal of Willie Randolph of the New York Mets Baseball team is yet another example of the failed policies of the George W. Bush administration. While we honor John McCain's service and patriotism to this country, John McCain will continue the managerial policies that lead the New York Mets to another lackluster season of sub par .500 ball.

If I'm elected president, I will issue an executive order that all teams facing the New York Mets must forfeit all of their games for the balance of the 2008 season allowing them to become the 2008 World Champions.

You may put your hat back on and continue with the balance of your day.

Gabe Paul was responsible for three consecutive AL championships, from 1976-1978. HE negotiated all of the shrewd trades (getting Figueroa, Nettle, Rivers, Randolph, Mike Torrez, etc) that brought the Yanks back to glory, after more than a decade. Without that, there is no way that free agent Reggie Jackson puts them over the top (1977), because they would have been no where near the top. If you need a more modern example of the coattails that the 1978 Yanks rode "without Gabe Paul," simply look at Buck Showalter rebuilding the Yanks, and Joe Torre coming along and "managing" them to the four World Series Titles, and six pennants. Even the 1980 Division Champs and the 1981 American League Champs were still largely the nucleus of what Gabe Paul had built.
Sorry, but your "anything short of winning the World Series is a failure" attitude about Gabe Paul is Yankee-like nonsense.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Aquarius

You're full of energy and determination right now, especially when it comes to nailing an ambition or making a name for yourself. You'll want to give it your best shot, and you'll get very annoyed if you feel your efforts are being frustrated by others. Watch out for a rather tense atmosphere with someone older or more influential than you, as this could lead to a row.
