Stop Maryland's season of cruelty: fall bow hunting -

Full story: Baltimore Sun

Anticipating autumn's bounty of cooler weather, glorious sunshine and majestic foliage also brings sadness to my heart, knowing the suffering about to be inflicted by Maryland's bow hunters on our deer starting ...

I am against ballot initiatives for wildlife management. Most don't know enough to make an informed decision. They get bombarded with PETA ads depicting outright lies and half truths.
On this I agree.
And it's not just PETA. Other groups have a vested interest in wildlife issues too. Ranchers, hunters, fishermen, environmental organizations, etc. Sometimes what these groups want isn't in the best interest of others or the ecosystem.

WE have too many bears here in Co. Is it a coincidence that spring hunting for them is outlawed and the numbers have increased?
Why is spring hunting of bears outlawed? Was that a ballot initiative, or was that implemented by wildlife officials who have the knowledge to make decisions regarding wildlife management?
Medicinebow wrote:

Most hunters voted against the dove hunt? Are there some polls
showing this?
I don't know what most hunters voted for, but my link stated that EVERY county in the state shot the bill down. I would assume there were hunters in the mix since many of those counties are in prime hunting territory.

A human compared to an animal in a cage? One of them has the capacity to reason...want to guess which one?
Yes. Both. Do you support confinement of animals with the capacity to feel pain and that long for freedom, even if they can't "reason" according to your definition of the word?
Medicinebow wrote:

I see a sharp division in this country where folks in certain areas are deciding what goes on in other areas when its really none of their business. Its not just with hunting. I don't make decisions for the folks in Denver and they shouldn't be deciding how things should be for me. Why should someone is downtown Denver or Boulder be deciding how things are done where I live? These folks don't have bears in their neighborhoods (for the most part) so why should they have a say in how in how they are managed up here?
I see your point and I agree with it. But you can't change the sentimental feelings other humans have for animals, especially when most of those people only see them in movies.
Medicinebow wrote:

It's the same with the wolves in Wyoming. Someone in California shouldn't be telling the folks in Wyoming they can't hunt wolves. But these folks insist on making things that are none of their business, their business.
See previous reply.

Maybe we should put welfare on a ballot initiative and let the folks in rural areas decide if folks in the city should receive such funds. After all, the folks in the cities are insisting on telling me how to live my life.
Considering we all pay the bill, why not? Except for the fact that the majority seems to rule this country now, it would probably pass.

Two weeks in a row we lose by a field goal, in OT, to a back-up QB!!! What's wrong with this picture??? I can't figure out why they can't show any consistancy, they play great for short spurts then go back to playing halfassed. Go figure.....

Just another AR lunatic who believes that her "fight for the animals" justifies her actions, even including grand theft, trespassing/burglary, and throwing dogs from a speeding vehicle. Sure the dogs she tossed out of the moving car suffered great fear and pain but it was for their own good....right? ROTFLMAO!!!! ARs! What a bunch of bigoted lame brained idiots!!!

Good morning, Squach. I hope you are well.

Austin is in pain and with frequent coughing and choking lately. There is swelling, or some type of growth on his tonsils, but bloodwork does not indicate any bad cells. The vet says Tonsil cancer in dogs is very rare and unlikely.

Last month we thought he had lymphoma, but the huge lump on his throat turned out to be infection of the salivary glands. We don't know what is causing him these problems. He is 12 years old, but we decided to have it biopsied, because otherwise he is in good health.

I'm hoping this is something simple like a wood splinter stuck in his throat that got infected and can be removed.(He used to eat wood in the yard.) I hate putting him under anesthesia at this age, but it's too soon to lose another family member.:(

There's a really nice lake I want to take him to in the spring!

We took a friend (19 years old) up north so she could go hunting on our property over the weekend. I walked with her out to the tree stand. Before she climbed up it, I warned her to always check the tree stands anywhere she hunts to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

She's still a little young and naive and was shocked when I told her about some of the ARA tactics to stop people from hunting.

Yeah, violent crime against their fellow humans from the crowd that claims to have "compassion" for all living things. That's a pretty smelly crock-o-sh!t, ain't it? Hope your friend had a good time hunting and learned a few things for future hunts.

She had a great time. She was also introduced to the world of birds. She had chickadees feeding from her hand, saw her first giant Pileated Woodpecker carving out a fallen tree, and rare (for this area) Pine Grosbeaks down from the far north. Her time in the tree stand I'm sure will be much more rewarding knowing some of the birds that come to check her out in the future.

Sample from his tonsil is being sent out for analysis.
Films of his lungs are being sent to a specialist.
Spleen is enlarged.
He is loaded with “something.”
Whatever it is, it is not good.:(

We've had a bear break in twice this year. Food sources were down and the bear population is high. This makes conditions ripe for bear invasions.
The damage to our place was in the thousands from the first break in....we weren't home.
The 2nd time I actually pulled a gun on the bear that was in our dining room/kitchen. The Kimber night sights worked great but I could not see the bear. To turn the lights on would have required me to move within about 10' of the bear INSIDE the house. I finally scared it off. Not a pretty situation.
The DOW set a trap but the bear simply moved to another location.
Now i've replaced most of the damaged window/door/cabinets and such.
I've also purchased a much better weapon so that should another break in happen I won't need to find the light switch. I have a new flashlight/laser combo and a very high power weapon for future encounters.
The beavers and bears are costing a fortune.
I consider the inside of my home to be MY territory. I don't think folks in urban areas would put up with this for long.
The bear broke into your home? The bear was there first, idiot. You moved into HIS home ! Use logic.

You could choose to live many places but you chose his home. Maybe you should go live on a yacht.

Smokey, are you indicating you didn’t displace or kill some animals when your double wide trailer was put in place at the trailer park? Living in your glass double wide trailer must be so cool.

Hi Squach,

I really would like to know the proven stats of hunters that have been injured or killed from falling from tampered tree stands.

Spesking of claims, that's what I don't get, never will get...that hunters have compassion for all living things. For instance learning to enjoy birds, as this 19 year woman you are talking about as she is learning to kill other living things.

I took my daughter to a sporting goods store to buy some pepper spray. Surprisingly I am on friendly terms with the owner even though he is an avid hunter. So while we were waiting for him, my daughter wandered around looking at the mounts on the wall, and the pictures of hunters posing with the dead animals they had killed. So my girl came back to me and said, "Mom the more I see, the madder I am getting at these people." She didn't like one bit what she saw, especially the pictures. So we left. Plain spoken words from someone who really does respect ALL living things.

Happy 2013 to you if I don't talk to you sooner.
