I am gathering information on closed Maryland hospitals that closed in the 80's. There is one that seems to be a mystery "MOUNT WILSON STATE HOSPITAL" it was in MT. Wilson Maryand, now called Baltimore md. It was in Reisterstown on Mount Wilson lane. The history behind it, seems to have been missing. If anyone has any information about this hospital please reply. Any information would be helpful. thank you
Here's a link- maybe you have it already, but a lot of history

Question for Glasco. You said U were there from 64-66 and in Sanford cottage.(Was that Field side? Was Gill side there then?) Where was Sanford cottage? Was it next door to Putts? I STILL have the map to Field side in my HEAD even after all these years. Right now I can't remember the name of the cottage to the left of Putts facing school (only one cottage was next to Putts, duh). Was that called Sanford? For some reason Sanford doesn't ring a bell. I would think because of "Sanford and Son" TV show I would remember. Still nobody from Oct 68 to Apr 69 out there? Do you think it's just because they don't want to think about it? It was definitely a strict, lots of rules prison then.

The cottage next to putts was Wilson. Sanford was on Gill side. Putts, Meyers and Wilson and few others was on fiels side. The cootage which was considered orientation was Guttmacher on field side and most of the school also.

I remember Putts (that is where I lived) and guttmacher (orientation cottage where you went when y ou first got there), and I do think Wilson was between them, on the same side of the circle.
I thought that the shape of the area was sort of oval. And I thought that the school building was on the same side as Putts and Guttmacher, the Clinic building at one end with the Mansion at the other end, and on nthe other side of the oval were Bond, Wilson and Meyer cottages.
When I was there in a1961 that was all the cottages. Others were built later.

My Mom was in Montrose twice I believe. She would have been there in the early 70's, possibly 1973. She was a runaway and was placed there by the courts. She was known then as Cindy Linton. I will have to tell her about this site. I believe Montoses saved her life.

I was in Montrose from 1964 Thru 1966.
I was in Sanford, later to Myer because my sister came. Myer was called the sister cottage. I remember three sisters who were there with me, their last name was Coates. I remember Eva and Mary. For some reason I can not remember the youngest one's name. I have a master's degree in criminal justice and a good job. I often think of my peers.

I was in Montrose for 9 months, in I believe 1974. I was sent there for among various other incidents, constantly running away. I guess now I can understand a bit better why I used to do the things I used to do, but then it seemed to be the absolute worse place to be sent to. At least that is what I was led to believe...thinking back I think it was the best thing that could have happened at the time. I even remember, fondly, Bond Cottage, I cannot say I ever remember any mistreatment from the staff or girls I was committed with. We definately had a routine we had to stick to, I remember getting up about 530-600 in the morning, going to breakfast, the chores we were assigned, the simple structure. I guess it was what I needed! We had informal schooling, I really think that is where I learned to like the office procedures so much and the usage of (now I'm really dating myself) typewriters. I can say I often think about those days, wondering what happened to everyone. I can't say I really remember the counselor's, just smokey images at best. I can remember the "socials" we had with some of the male forestry camps, that was alot of fun, the rare trip to a mall in Baltimore, looking forward to mail, jees, life seemed alot simpler then!! Towards the end of my stay I know they opened up a place in the front area of the grounds for boys to be committed there. Good luck with your book, hope this has helped a little.

I was there in 1963-1965 if it had not been for that place I would be dead. I loved getting up and helping out in the kitchen with Ms. Davis. Ms. Libey was my housemother and she was on top of everything. Mr Myers was in charge of dance and the music choral. Ms Harris was my science teacher from India, when sometimes we the girls had to stand up for her from those who thought she was a push over. We had her back. working the fields, milking the cows and doing laundry was so much fun. I was afaid of plucking the chickens. The staff was allthat. I was sorry when I had to leave because i knew that there was trouble where I lived. There should be a place like that now. The staff was stern and fair. When I look at the youth that are in trouble now a place such as montrose is needed. I find it hard to believe that anyone was abused.

I was raped by a night guard while in isolation in the lock up building. I think they called it the "medical" building. It was 1979 - we had a huge blizzard and snow piled up to like 8 feet. He snuck in my cell and raped me - I was so scared. I never told anyone until many years later.
