Consumer Reports: Ford C-Max Energi 'more practical' than Chevrolet Volt

Who care 's about CR? I do not and I'm not the only one. I do know that Ford's car are greate and do not need of CR to reconise it. I'm suprise that they were able to know how to start n d drive the car, they could not operate MyFord Touch!

Who cares about CR? I would guess their 4 million or so subscribers would. I doubt any of them care about you though.

Toyota Envy Lives!!!!!Watch the domestic commercials...always mentioning Toyotas. The Ford is nice if you don't mind using gas every day. I've purchased 6 gallons in 14 months. Impossible in the Ford C-Max unless you drive less than 20 miles every day, and never on the freeway. Too much emphasis on the total range. 80% of a cars lifetime miles are city driving. The average American drives a little under 40 miles per day according to the last census. 

So, the average C-Max driver will be on gas 20 miles a day. However, if those 40 miles are mostly freeway, it will consume gas for those miles. The average Volt driver will not burn gas. At the estimated 47 mpg when in gas mode, the Ford will use about 12 gallons a month. 144 gallons a year. About $500 more a year than I spend.

The C-Max is not a series hybrid. When at freeway speeds, it is always using gas. The Volt can go 100 mph in full electric. 

Edmunds drove the C-Max for over 300 miles and got only mid 30's mpg on gas. I get a true 43 mpg on gas. Mpgomatic reviewed the Volt. They drove it for 600 miles and got 43 mpg on gas & a 40 mile E range on average.

The C-Max will cost about $33,000 before a  $3,750 credit. The final price is only $3,000 less than my Volt. I'll make that up in 6 years. Less actually because of the fact that the Ford can only go up to 62 mph in E mode & the true gas mpg reported by Edmunds.

The ride in the Ford is not as good as the Volt. Any Volt owner can attest to the nice ride. I owned 2 nice Sevilles and I rank the Volt right up there with them. After all, the Volt weighs 250 lbs less than my STS.

I'll stick with the Volt. 
ps. The 2015 Volt is slated to be a 5 passenger car

FYI. The subsidies were for all cars of this type, including the Ford, Tesla, Toyota, BMW, Fisker and the like. FYI, Bush signed the subsidies. FYI, Obama wanted to kill the Volt program per Bob Lutze. You should try educating yourself before making stupid mistakes like that.

Also, every foreign car produced in this country is subsidized by the states they operate in. Didn't know that, did you? Toyota is subsidized by Japan, big time. Their sales were plummeting in Japan because their consumer subsidies were ending. They are getting more subsidies. Didn't know that, did you? The food you eat (all of it) is subsidized, didn't know that, did you?
