1999 Beetle - loud screeching sound on start up. Ceases immediately after start. Sounds like typical belt squeel but none of the following has solved the problem - replaced belt, replaced belt tensioner, replaced starter.

I am still having a problem with water coming into the car during a rain. I think it is coming in around the firewall, it only shows up on the passenger side floor board. Please send me any info you might have to; skmach1@aol.com

I have a 1998 VW Beetle. I just put $700 dollars in it and no one can get the check engine light off. In NY you have to have the check engine light off in order to pass inspection. The O2 sensor was replaced, and now the machine is saying it needs a O2 sensor. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had same problem, found out that the U.S. goverment forced a recall on the catalitic converter, something to do with it breaking inside and creating emmissions above accepted pollution levels, but the problem it created for me was acceleration and cutting out. This is not a manufacture recall, so volkswagen is not required to notify you, it is a goverment recall and your volkswagen dealer is required to repair it at no cost to you. I took printed info from internet and had mine repaired, no questions ask. That was about a year ago and no problems since, not in that area anyway !! Good luck
I have a 2005 Volkswagen turbo and i was just wondering if that would be covered under this warranty because my car has been messing up like that, or you could email me the link to where you found this information, much appreciated!

I love my 1999 Beetle, however, the recalls that they have owned up to are only two of many: Break light, and electric window. I can comment, it would depend on how the previous owner maintained the car. My gas door will not shut, and I had to invest in a new glove compartment as that would not shut. Little things that cann add up.
Myself? It now has 123,000 miles on it and am currently running into the old car syndrome and consider myself fairly lucky. I've been told it's way over due for a timing belt and is costly. It also needs a serpentine belt, which is not costly. Breaks? I'm hard on breaks.

yesterday we started up our bug and it made an odd, gurgling sound. I thought it was snow that went up and somehow got into the airbox. but when we cleaned it out nothing changed. i later found out that a plug wire was burnt out so i replaced them and now it makes another odd noise. I checked the diagnostic meter we bought and it says there's a problem with cylinder #3. The plug is black, but i do not smell gas from the exhaust, so the coil/ignition isnt bad, i dont think. but that doesnt explain the odd sound. I think the head gasket blew and is causing the fouled plug and odd noise. anyone else hae any ideas on what is wrong?(i accidently broke on of the vaccumm tubes and duct taped it. the car sounds like, well if you ever put on a cold air intake or have heard a tuner car, that same kind of sound, mabyye a different problem?)

I have a '99 VW Beetle, and have been having stalling problems for about 4 months. I have spent close to $2,000 trying to fix it. It would stall when coming to stop signs, while doing low km's in traffic and just started to stall while doing 80km an hour. I have to let it sit for about 10 mins then it will turn over and start. I think we finally found the answer to this problem about three weeks ago, and have not had any problems since. I had a 'coolant coil' replaced, not sure if that's the exact lingo but it was our last hope. Crossing my fingers that this works!
