I have a automatic 2001 beetle. Just replaced the timing belt and had to fix the valves because when timing belt broke it messed up the valves. Got it back today and when I drove away from the mechanic, it would spit and sputter when I pressed the gas. I immediately took it back and he put it onthe computer and it was showing a misfire on the new spark plugs so he check does and they were fun. He didnt told me he thought it was the fuel pump but it should run fine after it heated up. Well it doesn't, it still spits and sputters and will not gain speed especially going up the hill. Can anyone help? My email is [email protected] if anyone can help. I just put two grand into it and being a single mom, I can't afford much more.

Sorry for the typos in above post. He put it on the computer and it showed a misfire on 1 and 3 spark plug. He replaced all spark plugs while fixing timing belt and values.

Hi, I have a 2000 VW Beetle. It's a standard and I bought it from a used car dealer about 6 months ago. He screwed me over because the thing hasn't been driven since I got it. The day after buying it, the battery seemed dead when I tried to start it. Not a single light or noise would even happen when turnin the key. I finally got the money to replace the battery and the car ran for a day. Mechanics looked it over and said they couldn't find any other problems, except that the other battery was not a VW battery and it was unidentifiable. So after gettin it bac to my house the car sat for a week and when I tried to crank it, the same thing happened as before: No juice or power or anything. I tried jumping it off and no luck. Can anyone please help me? I have no clue what else could be keeping the car from running and I'm out of options. HELP!

2000 VW Beetle has new battery, drove it home and tried to start it the next day and nothing. Nothing inside, electrically, will come on. No lights, nothing. My granddaughter bought the car used from a crook who dropped it in her yard, it hasn't started since, took it to pep boys, they said battery, ran home fine, now problems again. They said it wasn't the alternator.

I have a 99 Beetle. It just cranks but will not start. I replace the ignition coil, plugs and wires. It still won't start. I need help!!!!
I don't know what is Wrong. The fuel pump kicks in when you turn the key. After cranking for awhile it smells flooded, so I know it's not the fuel pump. Please Help

Another 2000 turbo bug loss of power, can't acelarate, changed throttle body, and it works worse than it did before it was installed,
In first and second it barly gets going, yet when I put in third it takes off....
Once in a while it runs fine all day, other days it struggles to get going in low gears, but goes fine in third and on... When it looses the peddal it won't rev up for nothing, but runs smooth,
Ths problem is all over the Internet, but haven't seen anyone with a fix,,,,
Is it electrical ? Or timing? Or vacuume, or fuel? Hoses?

Funny he it runs great when it wants to, don't miss a beat..... Then out if the blue, you would think you r trying to run it on water or something ,,,,WTF

Helppppppppppppppppppppppppppp pp, is there a vw God???.?.

I have a 2000 VW Beetle. When I slow down or come to a stop my car just dies. I spent 1000 on fuel injectors and the next day it died again. They car will start up fine if you you start it and they give it gas. Any ideas?
I have a 99 beetle that did the same thing and it was the brake sensor that needed to be replaced. That fixed the problem for a week. It's not expensive to replace.

I have a 2000 turbo vw beetle and it's losing water but not leaking. Then it starts to get hot any thoughts on what it could be? I'm thinking it's the headers.
head gasket. Almost a certainty. You can buy a head gasket leak test. It is a blue chemical that turn yellow if exhauat gasses are present in the cooling system. Your local auto part store will have one along with instructions. If you are sure your not leaking then the only place for it to go is into the motor and burned out the exhaust.

I have a 1998 VW Beetle. I just put $700 dollars in it and no one can get the check engine light off. In NY you have to have the check engine light off in order to pass inspection. The O2 sensor was replaced, and now the machine is saying it needs a O2 sensor. Anyone have any suggestions?

Having a problem that when I get to a stop, the car dies. Only thing is that it doesn't happen at every stop. I also did a test and let it idle. The first time it would idle for 10 mins before cutting out, next time it would cut out within a few seconds. What could cause this?
I've changed spark plugs, condenser, points and distributor, but no luck. Could it be the ignition coil?
I used to have problems like that with mine. found that stock carbs after 30+ years develope huge air leaks in the throttle shaft where the butterfly rotates in the carb base. The shaft wears into the aluminum housing and then leaks air and then theres a idle or run problem. best bet try another carb if yours is old and stock. Try moving your throttle shaft up and down if theres any play its junk.
