Aug 7, 2010 Full story: Boston Herald 14

True, the 2010 VW Routan lacks the Microbus' quirkiness. But the $25,900 Routan offers performance, comfort and safety features that its 1960s ancestor could only dream about.

There are many problems with this! This was a Daimler project to begin with. This is in direct competition with our own branding. This was origionally supposed to be built in the US...is built in Windsor exclusively. Our van sales are bread and butter. We sell a lot of vans for ADA conversions. They are to be of 75 or better domestic content for stateside government assistance. For this reason, now Toyota will kick our butts on this. Do we have a new and improved van in line to replace this one? I'm very skeptical about this arraingement, VW was ready to can it. The jury is still out. It is priced higher than our models, but yet people are buying it because it says VW. Daimler sold the small car Neon platform to the Russians just when we got the bugs worked out and could have focused on a new generation. Daimler sold the beloved Cherokee and 4.0 IL to China because they said it had run too long. That would be almost like doing the same with the Wrangler body. So if this doesn't work out, what will VW get to walk away with? There are plenty of auto makers lined up to cherry pick the best parts of Chrysler, that is "WHY".

Van was to be made in St. Louis. Beerhunter, was one of many from there and had to follow a job to Illinois or where they could be placed because of plant closure. The taxpayers of St. Louis also got a raw deal.

You're insensitive response is a call for a vacation?

Who cares if it's a Chrysler or VW. We build it. We sell it. We profit.

As for St Louis. You can thank the T-Shirt you gave Ewasyshn. He was PO's, hung it in his office, and vowed to close St Louis after that episode. He did.

Call this an Urban Legend if you like but there's truth to it. He and Lasorda are both Canadians. Why do you think you got selected for closure?

Yes, you need a vacation. You seem very bitter, its time to move on. The new Toyota Sienna is a nice offering.

I'm not from St. Louis. I'm not bitter. I'm stating that things slip away a piece at a time...just like the imports have slithered in. That things seem to be given away and people have a laisse faire attitude about such things. That I have fellow bloggers with the handle "Truckin" tooting about Toyota...Toyota doesn't make a "real" work truck. That there are fellow past and present Chrysler employees on here that have not seemed to have learned much about goat screwings over the last dozen years.

Welcome to globalization and the freedom of choice for the consumers. People chose to buy other nameplates because in their mind, the Chrysler offerings were not competitive or didn't meet their needs.

Chrysler makes minivans in Canada while Toyota makes them in the U.S. Chrysler makes trucks in Mexico while Toyota makes the Tacoma and Tundra in Texas.

Look for some Chrysler mini/fullsize van manufacture and assembly to return to the states. As Ford departs the fullsize, look for a return of the Ram Van 3500 on up for ADA/Gov't assist regulations. Rumors of talks in the works now.

Here you are again. Feel free to let yourself go...gnaw on yourself if there is anything down there between your legs besides a bald monkey.
