A poor article. Doesn't even mention the mpg of the audi a3.

"During last fall's Audi Mileage Marathon, the A3 TDIs averaged over 50 mpg crossing the country."

Poor performance, the Audi TDI costs in excess of $10K more than the Prius.

Our Prius just can't match the performance of the Audi.

Prius outsells the Audi A3 by at least 10 to 1. The Audi is a bit player in the market. EPA rules who gets the best fuel economy, and they ruled in favor of the Prius.

The Prius remains a great image car for Toyota. I drove an Audi A3 for over 2000km in Germany (rental) and it performed well, but the emissions system kept signaling an MIL light. That is one of the problems with Audis and VWs.

"The Fusion Hybrid 1,000-Mile Challenge started at"8:15 a.m. EDT on Saturday, April 25, from Mount Vernon, Va., and ended this morning at 5:37 a.m. on George Washington Parkway in Washington, D.C. After more than 69 continuous hours of driving, the Fusion Hybrid finally depleted its tank and came to a stop with an odometer reading of 1,445.7 miles – setting a world record for gasoline-powered, midsize sedan." Not bad for a midsize car and coty winner. I like the A3 but the Prius is just to ugly to like. What are you an authority on ugly underpowerd cars?

Hey Joe, you are more than welcome to purchase an Audi A3 turbo diesel at a starting MSRP of $30K. However, there is plenty of market for the Prius at an MSRP of $22.4K as evidenced by its strong sales and market presence. Both of those are great cars and choices for someone looking for good fuel economy.

Both dont you mean all three. I mean fusion set a record where is your beloved toyota. The fusion set the record because it dosen't use gas untill 47 mph. You have to admit that was a smart move by ford and they have alot more to come.

But at some point, doesn't the engine have to run to charge the batteries? Interesting. Got a link to the story?

Prius costs $22K while the Audi costs $30K with minimal options. Buy the best damn car for your budget, and the people have spoken, and they've chosen the Prius.

Not really, the poor people have spoken and they have chosen the Priapus, based upon feeling. It’s no different than purchasing a Big Mac vs. a Gourmet burger made with premium beef. The cheaper offering, in this case the priapus, will sale more.

Or, you could look at it this way....if the object of a corporation is to make money, who makes more money selling hamburgers, McDonalds or the gourmet burger place?

I would spend the extra money on this up front just to avoid the batteries in the Prius and replacement every few years. looks a lot more fun to drive also

Not necessarily the case. Audi has a better balance sheet than Toota. Hell, even GM is on track to post profit before toota and that was before the big cover-up became public. Big doesn’t mean better, in this business what counts is “how many cars you sold and how much money did you make from those sales.”

No need to debate it folks, the Prius is the winner, hands down. The A3 is a niche player in the global market, while the Prius is a powerhouse. End of discussion...move on.
