Recurring Sportwagen problems?

The first family car i remember was our 61 Bus. VWs only until 1989. I tried a TDI Sportwagen in 2009 and love it, but ... I have had two door light switches fail ($450 each as they must replace, apparently, a LOT!) without which the car cannot be locked. A pressure valve in the exhaust system ($500), and now, my radio antenna has failed AGAIN, for,.....$500. How can one really justify a car that needs $1,000 in radio antenna replacements?

Are others having little annoying problems that cost them serious money?
