Waves of future & past

It's hard out there for automakers - but harder for some than others. One of the many reasons for that was highlighted by two recent missives from the auto front.

The UAW fights 'forward thinking' and resists innovation and change. The greedy union is responsible for destroying the US auto industry - the union cancer needs to be eliminated so we can compete in the global economy.

How about discussing the fact that the biggest hinderance and problem for US car companies is the UAW? Honda, among others, makes many of their cars in the US, employing US workers. Honda still turns a profit. GM is being strangled at the neck by a 65+ year old system that has long since outlived its usefulness. If people really want to see American car companies compete, it is time to abolish these crushing unions.

Like it or not, the "global economy" is here to stay, so it's time to stop trying to protect the past. Unions have a role in protecting their members, but not when it starts killing the very companies that provide thier members with their livelihoods.

That said, it's also time for the management of the US automakers to step up with more creative and innovative ideas.

How has the global economy ruined the auto industry? How so? Japanese car companies that make cars in the US are thriving. What is the difference between Honda and GM cars made in the US? One guess-----unions.
