If you want to understand the major uses of Nickel in relation to the U.S. read the following Nickel commodity summary from USGS.
http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commod... Demand of Nickel for batteries only represents 5% of demand, not to mention that the majority of these rechargeable batteries are in small hand held devices- and typically are not recycled. The major use of Nickel is for stainless steel and other alloys representing about 60% of U.S. Nickel consumption. |

1 Who cAreS about mE?!?!?! Only Me!!!! So when you talk about your green crap remember this, You don't know me, you don't care about me, and all you really care about is yourself. Guess what, I don't care about you either, or your kids, or anything else but myself...(I only know one person who cares about me and that's me.) Imagine I offer you a job making a million a year to mine nickel or oil, would you? How about 2 million?!?! You'd have your price... Why? Cause you and me we're the same you and me... JuSt you don't have the money. So go ahead and keep chirping at the other Prius owners while I actually make a difference in this world making my wells, making my money, and buying my stuff!!!!!!!!!! You're worthless, cause you haven't changed anything but your typing. Have you actually done anything to make oil or corn not our top consumption? Or are you wasting your time here? I am a consumer, you are a consumer, you have a brain, that brain thinks your body is free. You are only free as long as you are kept in check. Marshall law keeps everyone in check. You are all but consumers to me. Try to make a difference and see. I'll sell you product, you'll buy said product, or you'll fall by the wayside(socially (popularity) economically (job) or emotionally (love). yOU bought the prius cause of money, admit it you poor sack!!!!!!! ---(Ironic Satire) |

Back to the original story...
I fully expect my Prius to last at least 200K miles. It's a Toyota. I've owned 7 Toyotas in my life and never taken a single one in for repairs - only maintenance. The Ford that my husband drove got about 40K miles before developing problems. The Dodge needed a new transmission at 68K. If I had to bet on a vehicle lasting 300K miles, it wouldn't be an American one. |

When a story is written with such a slant like this one, it makes you wonder if there's an agenda at hand. It sure appears to be influenced by people who are against alternative fuels...what a shame.

I agree with "Maflagulator" (what kind of name is that anyway??). It is a NATIONAL SECURITY RISK to continue to pursue oil interests abroad. Why isn't our government working hard to find ways to NOT be dependent on oil? Because there's too much profit at stake! |

PRIUS forever & ever !!

Doing some quick math, the Prius will use 27,000 fewer gallons of gas than the Hummer in a 250,000 mile life span. It will cost an additional $108,000 more to fuel the Hummer over a Prius. The enviromnental savings and fuel cost savings probably outweigh the mining concern.
