This is HUGE. In an unprecedented auto industry decision, Toyota told its U.S. dealers Tuesday to immediately quit selling new and used cars and trucks that the automaker recalled Jan.

Toyota has taken the same action in Canada, but the concern for me is whether I should turn a wheel on my 2005 Avalon, especially when Toyota seems to be slow in terms of executing corrective action.
This is the second issue I've faced with Toyota in the last 12 months - the other is the V6 oil line hose problem which they initially appeared to duck. While not a 'safety issue' per se, it, along with the lingering accelerator issue, demonstrates Toyota's reluctance the quickly tackle issues that will ultimately damage its brand. If they were to deal with the matters in a forthright way, I would have confidence in them, but based on the last nine months, they've eroded their reputation to a level that is 'in the toilet'.
Any law firms interested in a Canadian class action? Toyota deserves same given their head in the sand attitude.

Due to the recent catastrophe with Toyota’s defunct plants and defective product, many companies are beginning to change their marketing campaigns.
FORD – Drive one. Seriously…we let YOU drive the car, not the other way around.
GM – Take a test drive. Push the gas pedal and our cars “move forward” faster. Release the gas pedal and the car slows down. May the best car win!
Honda – We never wanted to be #1, and we still make good cars. We are not Toyota.

Looks like the death toll is rising, up to nineteen now. Man oh man, this is bad news. Just think of all the lawsuits. Hmm, where is CR and its nut hugging reporters?

Just think of all the dirty and nasty personal attacks aimed at ME for trying to share the TRUTH!

JJFADS, you are biased.
I’m here to set the record straight.
You don’t know anything.
You fail…
Toyota makes the best selling car..blah blah blah.

You retards try and scorn me?

I told you that Toyota’s quality reputation was “perceived fiction” and you publicly scorned me on these very threads. It just shows what type of people post on an internet forum and it further goes to show how the stand up Americans that actually KNOW something about the lies and deception of Toyota are treated in a public forum. Every one of you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves. That includes you TRUCKIN and all of your other aliases,. Take note “whatever, 2003em, and all the others.”

I work in a Toyota owned plant and the quality is suffering, Toyota uses plants like ours to do the dirty work so they can tout their "high wages" and "green commitment" and they don't mention plants owned by them like Hino and Isuzu that are run on temps working 60 hours a week.

I personally won't touch a toyota with a 10 foot cattle prod. I rate them now as the worst US automaker. I wonder if this will have an effect on prius sales?

OK Toyota has a big problem. BUT... GM sells / sold a version of the Matrix called the Pontiac V I B E . Made in the same plant, same design underneath, same drivetrain, only the skin is different.

WHERE IS GM's announcement? Where is GM's Recall? If you think less of Toyota, what do you think of a company with the exact same problem which doesn't do anything?

Toyota has a bigger problem, no doubt. But they are taking steps. Once again, the folks at Grossly Mismanaged are ignoring the freaking obvious.

GM = dead in 5 years (we can only hope)

I wondered about the Vibe, too, but I haven't seen any info on it. I would assume it's the same as the Matrix. Being that GM is dropping Pontiac, you'll probably go to a GM dealer and they'll say "You own a Pontiac? What's that?".

Toyota certainly has a big problem on their hands, but the good thing is they're doing something about it.
They're ceasing production until this problem is solved, and they've also stopped selling their applicable products.
That's a step in the right direction so let's give Toyota some credit for that at least.
It's not the first time any automaker has had such a big issue, and I'm certain it won't be the last.
Will Toyota survive this latest situation?
I believe so, and I also believe Toyota will emerge wiser and stronger as a result.

ERRR – Vibe is a Toyota designed by Toyota and built by Toyota for GM.

If GM decided to source inferior Vibes from Toyota to sell under the Pontiac brand than GM should be responsible for them when they fail. Of course Toyota legally can very well get stuck with the bill. Personally I think GM should buy back every Vibe they sold (not very many) and get the driver into a new GM vehicle.

The Vibe straw won’t work for you, nice try at deflecting though…

Actually no automaker has ever had “this big of an issue,” it’s unprecedented. Further, the only reason they stopped production is because they are trying to save their business. The media has turned on them. If the news had not spread like wildfire on the internet and picked up by the mainstream, they would still be producing and selling defective product.

Stop it, you give them as many “chances” as you like, that’s absolutely fine by me. You aren’t going to hear me say anything negative about that. Just don’t expect me to do it, especially when they knew >KNEW< about defective gas pedals a year prior. They deserve every bit of this IMO.

This is only chapter 4 of about 15 of which will play out in the coming year(s).

**BREAKING NEWS**

Truth be told they wanted to continue making and selling defective cars. At this point in time we can reasonably and responsibly use the term “death traps.”

This just broke:

“Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told WGN Radio in Chicago that the government pressed the company to stop building vehicles linked to the massive recall. LaHood said "the reason Toyota decided to do the recall and to stop manufacturing was because we asked them to."

Congressional probe to begin Wednesday.
