Chevy Malibu?
Whatever that is, its a great looking car. That must have been a design that Honda copied for one of their models. |

1 The first steam power vehicle that moved on wheels was invented in France. A German invented the first successful gasoline 4 cycle motor. A German first powered a vehicle using a gasoline motor. An Italian invented the wet cell battery. It was a Scottman who invented the air filled tire. Glass production started in the Middle East. Wheel production started in the Middle East. Steel, copper production started in the Middle East. So Americans are also just copying the automobile as invented in Europe, based upon inventions that started in the Middle East. |

You claim that the "Japs" are making (carbon) copies of American cars sounds like another attempt to slander the Japanese people. Toyoda first automobile was designed entirely his own. It took Toyoda several more attempts to design a build a car that Japanese would buy. Toyoda spelled the name of his company Toyota for marketing reasons. While some Japanese vehicles may have been inspired by American vehicles, these cars are not (carbon) copies of American vehicles. Just like some Americans have gone to Europe to study European automotive design, some Japanese have come to America to study American automotive design. There is nothing wrong with learning from a design made in another country. Chrysler used the design of the German designed VW Rabbit, under license, to design a 'improved' larger version of the German designed front wheel drive motor and trans axle. PS You are showing your racism. The term 'Japs' is often used as a insultive shorting of the word Japanese. |

TOKYO — In six short months, Toyota Motor Corp. collapsed from the world's biggest, most profitable car company to the industry's top quarterly money loser.
The roughly $28 billion swing — from record operating profit to loss — was whiplash-fast, but the problems behind it had simmered for years. After 50 years in the United States, Toyota still imports 45 percent of the vehicle it sells there. A decade-long expansion drive added to the automaker's costs. A push to speed new models to market hurt quality, opening the door for rivals. Toyota neglected the compact cars that had made it great in favor of luxury models, large SUVs and pickups. Then it all boiled over. In January to March, Toyota's red ink outpaced the loss at General Motors, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. And Japan's No. 1 automaker warns that things will get worse. Toyota tailspin Globally, Toyota stumbled due to • Neglect of small, affordable vehicles in favor of big, expensive ones • Overreliance on Japan exports • Large exposure to exchange rate shifts • Rapid overseas expansion that added costs, strained resources • Slipping quality ratings |

I like the article as it brings to light the beginnings of an industrial downfall via accurate information. It clearly shows the beginning of the demise of what previously was a good company. It exhibits the failing road they have chosen to go down, much like GM. This is a good example of what will someday be a case study for a college student. You see, much like you I am no supporter of the Oriental makers, but I give credit where credit is due. At any rate, since you don’t like the article because it’s old, I will post some newer information. Here is a taste: "Recession Isn't the Only Problem Toyota's overall U.S. sales are down 39% during the first six months of this year, a deeper drop than Ford's, which are down 33%. But what is especially worrisome to Inaba is what appears to be a lack of clarity around Lexus and the collapse of Scion, which he had a direct hand in launching. Inaba says he isn't so sure that Toyota's problems are related only to the recession. "This is my intent—to solve this. It was so profitable when I was here last, it must be something [besides the economy]," says Inaba. U.S. Lexus sales are down 34% in the first half of the year—more than BMW (BMWG.DE) and Mercedes-Benz (DAI), which are both down 29%. The trouble is worse at Scion. The brand, with three products priced under $20,000, should have held up well". |
