Toyota Tacoma signal light design flaw

I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma and the running light/signal light bulb has burned & cracked my glass lens cover. Toyota issued an alert to the dealerships, but not to the consumer. Toyota has designed a new part that places the light bulb further back from the lens cover. I was told that this is a warranty issue & not a design problem. Since I already have 48k miles I am past my warranty & it will cost $600 to have redesigned part installed. If this was a wear & tear issue I could understand it being under warranty, but this is a redesigned part. Just want to let other Tacoma owners to check your lens cover for discoloration or cracks. If you are still under warranty take it to your dealer & have it replaced.
