Can't wait for Toyota to release it's hybrid version of the Sienna. I nearly purchased a Limited 4wd model, but thought better of it since a Sienna hybrid is on it's way. Hope to see XM Radio option, real-time traffic, a larger VOICE-ACTIVATED nav screen.

What makes you think that it is coming soon? I have heard nothing and would be very interested.

Toyota has made statements saying the hybrid is coming soon, but has not announced a date. Our local dealer has confirmed that it is coming. THe rumor is for a release in early 2007. We are hoping they will announce soon so we can put our order in!

I am anxiously awaiting a hybrid version of the Sienna. My '99 Sienna is holding up well, but the gas mileage is less than desirable. I'm holding out for a multi-passenger hybrid, preferrably in minivan format. Any concrete info on a hybrid Sienna? I hope to get my name at the top of the list!

Almost sprung for a new van this month, but heard of hybrid just in time to hold off. Even if they are just rumors, I will delay purchase and research, definitely worth the wait. Dealers have told me 5-7 yrs ... are they that low that they will lie to make a sale today? I know, dumb question.

I'm driving a 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan with over 300k on 'er. I'm going to lease a new vehicle this fall/winter, if this hybrid gets released (AWD would be sweet for the winter here in Alberta) I'm definately going to snatch one up!

says that a hybrid Sienna is due in Fall 2007, but I don't know if it can be considered authoritative.

Look up Toyata Estima hybrid (Yahoo! or Goggle search) Toyota is selling the Sienna's cousin(Estima) hybrid in Japan. However it is a 4 cylinder engine.(we usually get bigger engines compare to the rest of the world! Gas is cheaper here in USA!:-) The Estima have a sleeker front and 2/3 of the van is similar to Sienna. Toyota Problem with making Sienna in US market is Battery supply. The majot batteries supplier which I won't mention here, can NOT produce enough batteries
for Toyota to make Hybrib available to its biggest market(USA). On the other hand, it is logical for Toyota to offer Sienna hybrid since both Camry and Highlander share the same platform as Sienna. Some initial speculation are 288HP @ 38mpg! They will probably priced in the mid 40's....:-( At this price, I can only appreciate the van on my screen.. so really, i doesn't matter if they are available here or NOT!

Does anyone know (a) whether the hybrid Estima and/or Previa are sold in left-hand drive models (for driving on right side of street), and,(b) what would be the conversions required to bring the hybrid Estima (or Previa) into compliance with US EPA and DOT requirements?

If anyone's done it, or knows an Importer (ICI) that's done it, I'd love to know the difficulty and approximate cost.

you have no idea what you're talking about. The MPG won't be that high and the price won't be that high. It will be around $26-$27K with a 4 cylinder engine. It won't be out until 2008 sorry. I am an executive at Toyota.

I hope you're really an executive at Toyota. I, too, read the $27K figure somewhere. And I'm hoping for 40mpg. In any case, did you mean that it will be a 2008 model or a 2009 model? We've been waiting since 2006!!

dante is b.s.ing. 2008 is already on its way to dealership. i would imagine if there is one, it won't be out until 2010 at the earliest since this would be the sienna's major redesign.

yes, the estima/previa is a hybrid but it is too small for north america market. moreover, the estima/previa has always been in existence overseas. the sienna is built specifically for north america consumption ... it is built here in america.

Why do we in the U.S. need much larger cars than the rest of the world exactly? I realize we're the world's champion in over-consumption, but come on already. Hybrids should be dominating the highways, or are the lobbyists controlling our government to THAT great a degree? Why do we have to be smacked in the face with things before we react? The peak oil theory is in full-swing right in front of our eyes and STILL I see numbskulls on the roads in their Suburbans, Excursions etc. WAKE THE HELL UP AMERICA! Those days are OVER. Join the world party and smell the coffee.

Interesting note: the producers of "Who Killed the Electric Car?" had to choose between GM and Toyota for the auto manufacturer used in the documentary. BOTH are equally "evil" and obviously being paid off by the oil lobby. Greed sucks.

a month ago, I asked my Toyota-Lexus dealer in Toronto about the Sienna hybrid. I am a good customer, so I don't think they would purposely give me the runaround. They told me that they had confirmation that it would be available in Canada (so I assume the US also) as a 2009 model in fall 2008.

In the hope that some real Toyota execs collect data on this: I will NOT buy a Sienna, or any minivan from Toyota until they release a hybrid version. The fact that they have one (albeit smaller) and refuse to sell this in the U.S. market is annoying enough to delay the purchase, or buy a dodge mini-van at a cheaper price and put that toward gas.

Has anyone heard any reliable new information about the release date of the Sienna Hybrid? I have a 1998 Sienna now that I love, but it's time for a new vehicle and I want a hybrid and 4 wheel drive.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Taurus

Make a big effort to spend time with people you didn't see on Christmas Day, especially if they're older than you or are having a bad time at the moment. You're brimming over with compassion and empathy, which will be really appreciated by anyone who's on the receiving end of them. You're also in the mood to make allowances for people, and that will help enormously.
