I knew they would admit the Civic was a mistake. It's funny to actually see the top dog "slant" admit the obvious. Con_tiki, do you see the error of your ways?

I think honda probably would have been better off going with a diesel hybrid. The civic hybrid gets 40 - 45 mpg, and any diesel by itself would get that.

Reminds me of Men at Work, "Its a Mistake."

Diesels are not good at the on and off thing and the new emissions regs would make them kind of a nightmare in a passanger car

Honda talks about this Hybrid crap exept they are not doing anything. Insight, Accord, and Civic hybrids have all failed. Meanwhile, Big 3 has tons of hybrids.

My HF gets better mpg than all of them and the insight might looked strange to you, but it was a work of art! |

Insight was butt ugly, that has been confirmed by the public who barely bought any, and by Honda, who canceled it! |

To some they loved it, clubs, shows, forums it is a legend....have you even looked at one up close? Im sorry I cant help it. Cars are like people in some ways, once you get to know them they arent so bad....the engineering of the car was great for its time. Some on ebay still sell high and well. Some with near 200k miles and going with little repair. Why not give honda credit? It was a very well thought out piece. America at the time was not ready for it. Why be so closed minded? Sometimes I wonder how some of you function at work or in public relations. |

Well I belive, I have said this before, but cars have been ugly but also a success, I mentioned. (Ford Escort Cosworth etc. etc.) It was sort of ugly, but very fast at the same time...I suppose it depends upon your tastes...

We have a 2008 Civic Hybrid and we love it. I was service manager for Toyota for 16 years and I can tell you the mpg is about the same as the Prius, give or take a few miles.
The Civic handles much better and is more comfortable. Now that the EPA has revised it's test methods the results speak for them selves. What Honda needs to do is take that supper efficient 1.3 and pair it with a larger electric motor and the newest batteries when they finally come out. Then add more so they can increase the time the electric motor runs and last of all make a plug in option. But again they need the newest batteries to become perfected. Unlike the Prius it doesn't look like it's from outer space and you don't have to watch a monitor to make sure your driving correctly. Just drive it wisely. Don't get me wrong the Prius is a good car. It just doesn't fit our taste and the MPG for the AVERAGE driver were way over blown. Honda also doesn't promote the car at least not here in Rhode Island. |

I'm a technician at a local Honda dealership here and there is this one customer who has a 2004 or so Civic Hybrid with over 500,000 miles.

Judged:
1 I know a guy that has a Ford LTD and older F-150. The LTD has something like 480,000 and the F-150 has over 500,000. I thougt he was joking but it is true. So this Honda high mileage story does not phase me in the least. |
|
Yeah, lots of those down here in the south. It's called replacing the powertrain every 100K miles! |
|
|
I know of a lot of 75k mile Honda and Toyotas that are sitting in my salvage yard.
|
|
Did I tell you about the time I threw a brick through a tow truck's windshield just for a laugh? I hope the guy had glass coverage because it made a mess. Another time I cut a few hydraulic lines while the dirtbag was filling his face inside a pizza shack. Talk about a slow night! |
|
Nope and don't really care. Just sticking with the facts. |

Civic-Hybrid is not a mistake. All they have to do is apply the same Hybrid System in a mid-range LX model and bring down the price by $2,000 and it will sell like Hot-Cakes amidst $3.6 / gallon gasolene.

|
They already are selling like hot cakes here in North Carolina. I've seen more hybrid Civics than I have hybrid Malibus. |
